(More customer reviews)I like the game. It is funny to really pluck the strings to your favorite songs. The guitar has some weight and feels like decent guitar. It is a 3/4 scale guitar, but when you are sitting on a lazy boy it feels like the perfect size. This guitar can be used on a real amp like a real electric guitar. This game has some great songs. In my opinion, Rock Band 3 and Power Gig beat Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock as far as the set list goes. This is fun when you get past the learning curve. This is also a great "experiment" to see if the kiddos will really try to learn to play guitar without buying them a $400+ quality guitar.
Now, time for the nitpicks. There is a major learning curve to this. If you have children or you yourself get frustrated easily and might throw a guitar then this may not be the product for you. The rock band 2 and lower as well as guitar hero use the plastic guitars and feel very playskool at times. The good thing about them is that when you are selecting the kind of note (color area) there is a little gap that you can feel with your fingers that lets you know I am going from a green to yellow. With a real guitar this note selection becomes much harder. There is no gap telling you you are changing colors. You have to take a mental note or look down to see. Another problem is the way guitars play the note. On the neck (slender part of the guitar where you specify the note) you have to press down the string till it comes in contact with this slender metal tab. Your fingers may be on a string in the green area, but you have to press that string down and it has to "TOUCH" the metal tab. If you don't press hard enough, full touch the tab, or let go of the tab and retouch the tab then you will be missing notes. I strongly suggest you play on easy for a few songs to get this neck figures out and slowly move up the difficulty. I am in no way going past medium since I will be pulling my hair out. When you get into to pinky music playing I screw up even on the plastic guitars. The song list is great, but I think a good 1/2 to 2/3rd's is locked. My favorite song Ignorance from the set list was locked. They do have a handful of good songs unlocked at the beginning, but not the wow songs. Gameplay wise it is fun when you get the strings down. The note display is fine, but not polished. It could use some color and design changes. The animations in the back are playstation 2 graphics at best. Very low resolution and quality. This is a mute problem for the player since there are hardly any gaps where you can truely watch the animation. I don't exactly care for Rock Band or Guitar Hero's animation, but it is nice they try to make it look hd(ish). I paid $120 for this game. I heard the mixed reviews and I was not going to pay full price. If you want the game and can wait, wait till after christmast when this thing will go on sale or the market will flood with parents trying to sell this product after their child finally quit because the strings were too hard for them.
This is a good game. You can use your plastic guitars on it and play the game fine. The appeal is the real guitar. Rock Band is coming out with a better full size real guitar, but that sucker is about $275 and it coming out in January. I do recommend this game, but only for someone how likes the songs and can stick with it. I would not pay full price at all. $180 is way too much for the quality and the few nitpicks this game offers. This holiday is flooded with great items. The playstation move on the playstation 3. Kinect that came out today. Definitely check out Kinect if you are looking for ideas. Power Gig is good, but check out Rock Band 3, Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock, or Dj Hero 2. Rock Band 3 is really good this year and much cheaper if you already have the guitar. Rock Band 3 does have a new semi plastic and string guitar this year, but it is $150. I would wait for the real guitar before buying that thing that has like 102 buttons on the note selection. Rock Band 3 does have a keyboard which is awesome if you like keyboards and want to semi learn and play on Rock Band. I hope this review helps. It is a B- game with a steep learning curve that will exist with almost all guitars. If you give it a chance and get to where you can strum accurately it is fun.
