(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this cooling stand for my Xbox 360 Slim and have been pleasantly surprised. Normally, with other fans for 360s, they are either very noisy, or are low quality and don't move a lot of air. This cooling stand, however, is nearly whisper quiet and moves an incredible amount of air for the size of the 2 fans inside. They are located in the foremost 50% of the stand and draw air from the top, downward and out vents underneath. The cooling stand has small, raised rubber feet which keep it just off of the surface it is setting on enabling the air to move downward and away from the console. Upon plugging the fan into a USB port I found that it does not automatically turn itself on. Instead there is a small switch on the back of the stand to activate the fans. Once turned on the fans whirr to life and begin moving large amounts of air, very quickly, through the stand. I held the cooling stand about 1ft (12 inches) away from my face and felt my face begin to chill as the air was drawn past me. The fans in this cooling stand really do their job, and do it well. There is a nice green LED light which shines upward near the front of the stand when the power is turned on which adds a nice touch seeing as how the silver 360 ring on the front of the console has a green light as well. I am very pleased with this purchase.
I only found 2 things which would classify as "Cons" to me.
1. The USB cable isn't part of the stand itself. It is a separate cable, which comes included, but must be inserted into an AC adapter socket on the back of the stand. I worry about pieces like this wearing and or breaking with repeated use. Just be careful when plugging in and when removing the USB cable from the stand. Make sure not to force the connection or have it at an angle when removing it.
2. The cooling stand comes with 2 controller stands built into either side for easy access. On the side of the stand which the 360 Slim's built in fan faces, the airflow is obstructed. The fan on the console will blow right into the vertical piece from the cooling stand, and also into a controller if one is connected. If the purpose of the cooling stand is to increase airflow through the console then why does it have a controller stand which blocks the fan on the console? I used a clippers, which is normally used for cutting tree branches, and snipped off the plastic piece on the console's fan side freeing up the vent and clearing space for another 3rd party fan to be attached thus tripling or even quadrupling the air moving through the console. Be warned though, if you do decide to snip off one of the console stands do not cut below the sides of the stand itself. There are wires in each "foot" needed for the fans. Only remove the part which sticks up above the stand itself. This way both "feet" are left intact and still able to keep the console stable. I've done this and the fan works perfectly with no issues and no internal component damage and now I can attach another fan on the console itself while it is in the cooling stand.
This cooling stand is a must buy for anyone looking to cool off their marvelous Xbox 360 Slim console. With the architecture of the console dictating the processor (GPU and CPU chip) being near the bottom, and the removable hard drive fitting into a slot underneath, there are a lot of parts which can generate heat near the bottom of the console if it is in an upright position (As shown on the cooling stand). Without a cooling stand like this one you may experience a lot of heat building up at the base of the console while in use. This cooling stand eliminates that worry. I've always felt that cooling fans, regardless of wether I needed one or not, were like buying insurance for my console.
