(More customer reviews)I have always wanted a black and white with some color crash derby game in 3D to play on my XBox360 and this game delivered EXACTLY what I wanted.
If you are familiar with Zoo Games, you know what kind of exciting product that is slightly different than what a saturated market already has.
The game has a grindhouse drive in feel about it with shaking camera effects, lo-budget sound and derby environment. While playing it, I was hoping I would get glimspes of the type of carnival crowd that can be found at these events. You know, the large muffin top women in food-stained tank tops with more kids than they know they have and the cowboy-farmer-trucker-kicker boyfriends with a perma beer in hand and a pack a chew in their pocket. None of which will be found in this game.
The graphics are good. Far from confusing as one might suspect they could be given it is black and white. This is not a game that can be played for hours upon hours like some folks like to do since the small color pallet does become hard on the eyes.

Mayhem is a fast paced arcade racing and car destruction game. The inspiration for the game comes from two distinct types of events: Demolition Derby and Banger Racing. A demolition derby is more of an American pastime, primarily at state fairs and the like. Participants take an old beat down car, strip it of all the glass and other "dangerous" elements, spray paint the car and decorate it to their liking, then beat it to death at the main event. The last vehicle standing is the victor. A Banger Race is more practiced in the UK. Races take place on small courses with pits and hills, and drivers are encouraged to send their opponents off course. Courses can have hazards and obstacles, and the "figure 8" shaped course is a staple of the race. No matter whether it's Banger races or demolition derbys, the fact is that everyone love to see the everyman take it to the mat and come out a victor, and that's what Mayhem is all about.
