(More customer reviews)I have a bit of a problem when the laser lens cleaner has no cleaning capability! Cleaning disks typically have a cleaning brush affixed to them, but this one had NOTHING. It was simply a DVD with no cleaning product involved whatsoever! Humorously, the graphic on the screen when the product is supposedly cleaning your XBox shows a brush cleaning away the dirt on the laser lens, as though I was too stupid to see that the actual disk had nothing of the sort. I don't know if this was an isolated case of being a defective disk, but I'm still not too thrilled at having paid $20 (plus shipping) for something that is essentially worthless. The box is sure nice though . . . enough to make to think that you're getting a quality product.
I have not tried the disk repair fluid yet, as I have no needed to. However, I suspect that this may of the same quality (that is, no quality whatsoever). Stick with the standard $9.99 DVD/game system cleaner that you can find at your local Wal-Mart.

When I got it in the mail, I had my doubts that I would actually be able to repair it, because I have almost no ability to repair anything. But boy was I wrong! I have no knowledge of technology, yet with the extremely helpful manual, I was able to do it! What was garbage, is now working perfectly again! This kit gives you almost everything you need to repair the system.
The hardest part for me was getting the Xbox 360 open, but after that it seemed really simple. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to spend $50+ to get their system repaired. Just buy this kit and do it yourself!

(More customer reviews)We had an original PS3 in the playroom for kids that had died of YLOD at power on (blink blink blink dead). After some reading and snooping, I decided to try the solder reflow trick even if just to get it to stay on long enough to backup the hard drive to transfer to a replacement. The way I saw it, even if it didn't work or torched the unit, it was useless in that condition anyway so no further loss other than a few bucks and some time. Did the whole tear down/reflow (stripped bare motherboard in 424 degree oven for 10 minutes) and surprisingly, it worked like a charm.
Backed up the HD as soon as it came on, sure it would die again in a day or so, but it's been playing like a champ for a month and counting.
The old heatsink material was thinner and did not make good tight contact between tray and ICs, (and some were missing or too damaged to use) and as nobody seems to sell the thicker thermal tape itself (unless you want to buy $400 worth), an Xbox kit was worth a gamble. A little messy to cut, but by quartering each piece, I had enough to completely redo all the small ICs on the motherboard, and they seem to be doing their job.
As usual with small items, the shipping is outrageous compared to the product itself, but we live in the mountains and will never have anything like this in stock locally, so it is what it is.
