Xbox 360 Intercooler 360 - Black Review

Xbox 360 Intercooler 360 - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had purchased the original Intercooler for my 360 last year. Initially, it worked like a charm, keeping the system cool to the touch. After awhile, my console started having issues. Thinking it may have been a defective unit, I swapped it out and got another one. In almost the same time frame, the second console started having problems. The only constant was the Intercooler. Save yourself some grief. Buy a USB powered laptop cooling pad. I use an Antec one that is frequently on sale for $10. It works like a charm and doesn't harm the 360.
--Some analysis for those who care--
First, an observation. On several units, plugging in the intercooler caused the CD tray to open poorly. It was sluggish and sometimes didn't open up completely. Unplugging the intercooler immediately fixed the issue.
Thinking about the design, it makes sense why my console was failing.
1. The extra device was under-volting the 360. Anyone who has taken high school physics knows that a fan can be simplified as a resistor. By putting an extra resistor between the 360 and the power supply, you are creating an unexpected voltage drop before the power even gets into the 360. Less voltage = less power.
2. The 360 is a computer, not an appliance. It has a motherboard, drives, and all that fancy stuff. Inside a computer, power goes into 2 places: motherboard and drives. Drives are fairly tollerant to power fluctuations. Hence, you can put fans and other devices in the same power line as a hard drive or optical drive without too much issue (up to a point). The motherboard and all components on it, are far more sensitive to fluctuations. Therefore, power coming in first runs through a regulator on the motherboard. These regulators expect a certain amount of voltage and current. Power that comes out of these regulators is clean and at the right amount. By reducing the amount of power going into the regulators, not enough power can be supplied to the components, causing damage. Ultimately, this can lead to failure
3. While the power supply is rated for 203 watts, anyone who has built a computer knows that the rating usually means the peak power the supply can put out. The constant output is typically lower than that. Under no circumstances should the power supply be constantly run at the peak power (unless explicitly stated, like an Antec TruPower). Given this, the supply can easily supply the ~180 watts necessary for 360 peak performance. It can probably safely supply somewhere up to 185-190 watts. Any more than that and the supply will become unstable if constantly asked for that load.
Misconception that I've seen all over: "The 360 can power all these extra devices like battery chargers and wired controllers, why shouldn't it be able to handle a couple fans?"
Reason: The issue isn't if the 360 can handle it, but rather where the fans are placed. All of the peripherals for the 360 are powered by USB, which runs through the motherboard. This means the power is drawn from the board and through the voltage regulator on the board. The board controls where the power is sent. USB power is a standard, and each port is rated for a certain amount. If the draw on a port exceeds the rated amount or there is a short, it shuts off to protect the other components. An external device bypasses all regulation and safety measure.

I thought they were the covers for the rock band drums but instead they are foam pads that stick to the drum pads. The drum stick are alot heavier than the wood stick that come with the rock band kit to start. For the most part they are great and they really add a great look to the Drums themselves.

Xbox 360 9.2" TFT Screen Review

Xbox 360 9.2 TFT Screen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's actually a pretty great product. I did find a few things that could have been changed or improved upon. The unit actually clamps on to the XBox 360. It is clamped on good enough you can carry it with the screen like it was a suitcase. The right clamp is a little bit weak of a design. It actually clamps thru the holes on the side of the case of the XBox. Once installed it is secure. I had one little piece of the right clamp break, which I am sure Intec would replace if I would call. It is still rock solid once installed so I will worry about it another day.
Their is hookups on the back for SVGA / S-VIDEO / Composite Video. SVGA being the weakest to Composite Video being the best. Of course the included cable was SVGA. I did plug in my Composite cable that came with the XBox but did not see that much of a difference. Possible Intec sells a Composite Video cable for it, but I doubt it. Maybe even a S-Video, but again. So they sent us the weakest cable, it's not like the monitor is High Definition anyway. The cable for the back was specially made to fit this monitor, it is like 4" long, so you would have to replace it thru Intec if needed. That also means that only they make the cables for it. So they need to step to the plate.
The picture is good. You can play for hours. Even at 9.2" you can see fine. The picture could be sharper, but they give you no adjustment in the menu system for the monitor??? That could be improved. But as for picture, looks really good and you do not have to sit right up on it. 2 Headphones jacks, I won't personally use, but I could. The sound, LOUD!! I mean you can hear this thing. I was surprised. The sound goes to 100, but I usually have it around 15 or 18. It actually puts out really loud, clear sound. I was impressed.
In the back the unit plugs into the Wireless Controller tabs. That had me worried, but they were smart enough to incorporate tabs on the back of the monitor unit so you could still use your Wireless adapter. It mounts directly onto the back of the monitor in almost the same place. Cool!!
Documentation is lacking. I was more concerned with the lack of product promotion. Everyone has seen this screen, but their is never any detail. Nobody wants to spend $175 bones for something they can't tell how it works. Their are no screen shots on the web of the back of the unit, how it attaches, the specifications of the display, power adapter pictures, simulated screen shots, installation guides, or general documentation readily availible for this product. You have to buy this item and open the box to really learn anything about it. You won't even find any good reviews about this product. WTF?? Intec needs to step to the plate and follow thru with this product as it is amazing.
The menu for the monitor needs more regular tunung options. This is a monitor, period, so they need to include standard menu items as such. The power adapter cord could be longer, but it will do.
I bought this monitor to play when I travel. It is not heavy, has a great picture, and looks to be of solid construction. It has lived up to what I had expected.
Intec needs to do their part and follow thru with normal manufacturing practices. They can't just make a good product, they need to promote it as well.

Bought 2 boxes, some were d.o.a. but all stopped working on me. The fans dont start up unless I spin them first. Which I gave up on since theyre in my xbox. Oh the lights still worked but who cares. Just use small pc fans, not these cheap things. Pc fans have usb cords, I put two in my xbox and let the cord come out between the face plate and plugged it in the usb slot. Also have two on the outside on the right. Theyre quiet and they dont quit.

This is WRONG. Once charged, you can play wirelessly.Myth #2: Your Xbox360 has to be on, to charge it.

I have had 2 plug in play charger batteries die. The controllers would still work, as long as they were plugged into the xbox. I have 3 plug n play charge cables, and 2 xboxs. The problem exists on em all, so I know the problem was in the batteries. After one charge on this my batteries will hold a full charge again!!! Just got this yesterday, if it turns out I made this review early I will edit this post. But as of 24 hours after receiving this I couldn't be happier. Plus I like star trek and this thing looks like it could go warp 11. HAHA (yeah I know, physically impossible. Way to ruin a great joke!!!)PS I saw a review saying the headset charger wasn't there. Well you may have accidentally thrown it away!!! It is a small piece that is optional, one end plugs into power cord and other end plugs into the base where the power cord would normally go. It is totally there, and good thing cause I bought a used wireless headset for $5 cause dude lost the charger. And it works just fine now. Its the whole reason I bought this.

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable Review

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The reason that I ended up buying the VGA cable was due to the fact that the component signal (both 720p and 1080i) is subject to overscan. This means that the screen "zooms in" slighty so that you are sure to see a complete picture with no black or static edges. This is a problem though with the Xbox 360 because it ends up cropping the image. For example, the HUD in GRAW is cutoff on the corners when using the component cables. This really bothered me so I gave the VGA a try and viola!
I can now go into the dashboard settings and specify 1360 x 768 which closely matches my LCD's native resolution of 1368 x 768. Thus, I am able to see the whole screen without any overscan/cropping. The only downside is that the overall image gets "washed out" when using the VGA cable. However, this is not really a big deal because most of the newer games (GRAW, Oblivion) have an in-game setting for brightness which you can turn down to eliminate the washed out look.
I highly recommend that you at least give the VGA cables a try. Depending on your TV, you may or may not like them. No big deal though because you can just return them. However, you may find that you really like them and will be glad that you tried them out! Check out my VGA vs Component pictures at http://spaces.msn.com/theshepherdsbag/photos/ and read about my detailed testing on my blog at http://spaces.msn.com/theshepherdsbag/blog/ and you can check out this xbox forum thread for further insights at http://forums.xbox.com/2885313/ShowPost.aspx
Lastly, I have the Samsung LNR238W and there is NO ghosting issues when using the VGA cable.

Datel XBox 360 XSATA USB Hard Drive Linking System Review

Datel XBox 360 XSATA USB Hard Drive Linking System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The XSATA is an interesting product. To sum it up, it acts as a bridge between an Xbox 360 and its hard drive, with the ability to convert the SATA connection and convert it out to a USB port. This allows you to directly access the file system on the Xbox HDD, allowing for a "normal" viewing of the folder hierarchy. This means that data, including save games, movies, and really anything can be backed up to your computer's hard drive. The main use is to have a copy of your saved games in case a file gets corrupt or your HDD dies, although there are other uses, as I'll explain later.
The first impressions of the device are not very good. Physically, it is light, and rather simple looking, and getting it onto the Xbox is a hassle. It uses a few plastic tabs that connect where the HDD normally would go, and getting it on properly can take several minutes the first time you try it. Once it is on, you'll find that it adds about 1/3" to the width (or height) of your Xbox, and fitting right between the console and the HDD. If you use your Xbox horizontally, like I do, you'll find that the XSATA also protrudes about 1/16" on the top and bottom, and when laying flat on the table, your Xbox will actually rest on the device itself instead of on its rubberized feet. I've used the XSATA for almost a year now with no side effects, but it's still an uncomfortable observation. Note that because the XSATA is a physical device that connects to your 360, you must have your Xbox turned on and in close proximity to your PC to use it.
But once you get past the initial reactions, it gets better. Fuctionally, this device is flawless. The XSATA has a standard mini-USB port on the back, and comes with a 4 foot cable for connecting to your computer (could be longer, but...). The Xplorer 360 software that is included has worked fine for me, but I highly suggest doing a Google search for the latest version, which fixes some bugs and adds support for the 512MB memory card and the 120GB HDD. (The software works on Vista, too.)
Due to the limitations of the Xbox HDD, you can't access it with the Xbox and your PC at the same time, but that's not a major issue. The Xplorer 360 software is simplistic but functional. It only takes a few clicks to access a connected 360 HDD. It only takes a few more clicks to start the backup process, which creates a 20 GB (or 120 if you have the bigger HDD) image file which you can save anywhere you want. The backup process takes about 45 minutes on a USB 2.0 connection, and virtually ensures that your files up to that point are safe. I've never had to actually use an entire image restore before, but the process is painless to perform once about every month or so.
Those that have done any amount of hacking or soft/hard modding of the original Xbox will find themselves right at home viewing the file hierarchy of the 360. For others, though, there is a good sized learning curve. Microsoft makes use of unique hexadecimal strings for each game, and until you learn them or look them up, the entire system will just seem to be random files and folders.
But once you get past that, the XSATA becomes more useful. It is possible to extract and backup individual game saves, which is a much faster and more convenient process than backing up the entire drive. Even better, if you have a way of extracting or downloading game saves from original Xbox games, those can be injected into the appropriate place on the 360 HDD and played as long as the title is BC. This can save literally hundreds of hours of playtime if you don't want to spend time getting back to where you were. This is probably the most useful function of the XSATA, as transferring original Xbox saves is virtually impossible otherwise.
Functionality aside, there is a final fringe benefit to owning the XSATA. It has blue LEDs on the sides, which means that you'll have a gentle blue light on the side of your 360. No point whatsoever, but it does get you compliments, hehe.
The XSATA isn't for everyone. While anyone can go in and backup their entire drive, it takes a slightly more advanced user to get the full use out of it. There are the abovementioned problems with installation, but once you get past those, the XSATA is a useful device that may be worth it for the ability to transfer old Xbox saves alone.

At first I wasn't going to purchase this product because it had bad customer reviews. There were only 2 reviews but they both gave this product a 1 out of 5. Reason being is because the headset stopped working after 1 day of use. Xbox 360 Live Wire 10' AV/S-Video Cable Review

I bought two of these because they were really cheap at radio shack. Though I had to resolder one of them they are fine as S-Video cables if you don't need digital output. However, the optical audio output DOES NOT WORK ON EITHER CABLE. There is clearly a reason why these cables were $3.00 each at radio shack.
To double check I switched to the component cables that come with the xbox 360 and the digital audio worked fine.
I posted this review because I want to make it clear that the optical audio does not work on these cables. It's not that the four other people with problems don't know how to plug a cable in.

Xbox360 Fighting Stick EX 2 - Soul Calibur 4 Limited Edition Review

Xbox360 Fighting Stick EX 2 - Soul Calibur 4 Limited Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this joystick so I could really enjoy the arcade feel of playing fighting games as well as the Xbox Live Arcade games I own. The description for the product isn't that great so I thought I would provide some more information on this product. The stick itself feels pretty responsive although it does make a clicking noise when it is pressed against the edges. I'm assuming that was done to let the player know they are successfully pulling off motions. I personally don't mind it, especially with the game volume on.
The joystick is indeed wired but it is very long so I don't see it being an issue for most people. Wireless would of been nice but I guess at least this way you have zero chance of losing a signal in a heated match (although I've never lost a signal with my normal 360 controller). The cord does have a release in case you tug too hard on it just like the older Xbox controllers. You connect the joystick via USB (flap by power button on console).
The joystick itself feels pretty sturdy and is responsive. It does not include any special features such as slow motion or turbo in case that's your thing(like the old school NES Advantage). The only reason that I have not given this joystick a full 5 rating is because the joystick is not compatible with a lot of non-fighting games. The stick is mapped to the directional pad and does not support Analog control. What this means is you can't use it for most other non-fighting games like Lost Odyssey that support movement with the analog stick. Not a big deal since I got this stick for fighting games only but I thought everyone should know.
I can't speak to it's long term durability at this time but will probably update this review in a month's time to indicate whether the stick becomes too loose or buttons become non responsive.
*Update: Well, I've been using this joystick for about a month now and it's still good as new. The stick is not loose and the buttons are still very responsive. Overall, a very nicely made joystick.
