REPLACEMENT ORANGE CYMBAL Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Review

REPLACEMENT ORANGE CYMBAL Guitar Hero World Tour Drum
Average Reviews:

The cymbal was perfect, and the seller was A+. However, I later found out (after opening my original cymbal) that the cymbal itself was intact. The part that I needed, and most people need when their cymbal does not respond, is the cable that connects the cymbal to the main board. I ordered the cables from AMAZON (within the guitar hero drum set catagory), and despite the fact that you have to take apart the largest section of the drum set, the cable replacement was fairly simple. I believe there are some actual demos on how to do this on "youtube". My drums work, and now I have an extra cymbal for later in case. I hope this helps :)

Rock Revolution Review

Rock Revolution
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I saw that this Rock Revolution + Drum pack was on sale for abotu $13 on Amazon. I had read on the official Rock Band site that the Rock Revoultion drumset was compatible, and I needed a drum set that didn't cost $70. Sure enough, the drumset is fully compatible with Rock Band and Rock Band 2. The construction is even sturdier than Rock Band's own drumset; all the supporting beams are made of metal, while the bass pedal and the actual drum pad area is made of extremely thick plastic. The bass pedal won't break like Rock Band's original bass pedal. There are two negative features: the pads are smaller and are designed to mimic a real drumset, and they're not in a simple arc/line like Rock Band's. You will have to get used to moving your sticks to a different position, and it will take a while for you to make sure you're landing on the smaller surface area. The second negative feature is that if you hit the green pad too strong, it will also count as a hit on the yellow pad. The sensors are too sensitive, so you can't got all-out and hit it as hard as you want, although the unit can take it because of its solid construction.
I haven't played the actual Rock Revolution game. It looked awful and has the worst reviews for a rythm game. I just bought it for the drumset, which gets a thumbs-up for its $13 price point!

Ion Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set Review

Ion Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the serious Rock Band drummer, these drums bridge the gap between the video-game plastic drums and a real electronic kit. Each 4 pads and two cymbals (a third can be added, sold separately) can be adjusted, tilted, moved, and spread apart to feel more like playing a real drum kit.
PROS:
-Spot-on accurate with no missed notes or any kind of crosstalk between the parts
-velocity sensitive in Rock Band 2
-wide range of positioning of all main parts
-good build quality and solid for $300 e-drums (except *)
-assembly was quite easy, albeit intimidating and lengthy with the numerous parts (between hour and 90 minutes)
CONS:
-HATE the *kick pedal... noisy and cheap feeling.
-velocity doesn't have much dynamic range between light tap and hard bang -- minor point
-somewhat noisy, especially the high hat yellow cymbal
-customization/positioning can lead to confusion and frustration
On that last point: there's a reason the stock Rock Band drums are positioned the way they are... the 4 pads close together makes it easy to play the game, especially for non-drummers. This kit allows moving all the parts around, which is nice for creating the feeling of playing a real drum set -- but once back in the game, it becomes harder to play. Plus, adding cymbals makes additional (albeit optional) targets that take getting used to, so there some "swing and a miss" to overcome. Having a closed high hat cymbal "yellow" to the left of the snare pad "red" is cool to play crossed arms, but during the game yellow is always to the RIGHT of red. Also, the reach to hit "open high hat" on the blue tom is far from yellow cymbal, and it doesn't feel quite right.
There is a learning curve to get used to, and it takes a couple hours of playing and adjusting to get everything just right. Once all the parts were where I wanted and I replaced that awful kick pedal (a high-hat controller on other kits! ...minus 1 star) with a Pearl "Omega Pedal" (mini to 1/4" jack needed), this kit becomes INSANELY FUN in Rock Band 2!!!!

The wait is over for the next generation of musical gaming equipment. Whether you are an aspiring amateur, or a practicing professional, Ion's award-winning Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set for Xbox 360 lets Rockband players finally jam out with ease, letting your inner rockstar come out screaming.
Game Critics Awards Winner Rockband, which took the gaming world by storm in late 2007, was followed by the highly-anticipated sequel, Rockband 2 that was released in September of 2008. With Rockband 2 came Ion's Drum Rocker Set, which quickly took the Game Critics Awards top spot in 2008's Best Peripheral/Hardware category.
Professional-Grade Aluminum Rack and Pads While other drum controllers force you to use their configuration with a pre-molded, plastic array, the Drum Rocker's professional-grade aluminum rack lets you position your snare, tom and cymbal pads the way you want. Not only can you play your hi-hat with a right-hand crossover by placing your cymbals anywhere around your kit, but by mounting your pads to the drum rack with the included metal L-arm and clamp system, you can tilt, swivel, raise and lower the cymbals to whatever position you want.Drum Rocker's velocity-sensitive drum pads feature an ultra-quiet playing surface and a more natural and consistent stick rebound than your average pad. The pad housing is made of a hi-impact plastic, which means that no matter how much you punish them night after night, they will always be ready for more.
The Drum Rocker's all-metal kick drum pedal is also designed to take abuse. It offers the perfect amount of tension to replicate the feeling of a real drum pedal. And keeping in line with its set-up flexibility, the kick drum pedal comes with Velcro and retractable spikes, allowing you to place it in the most comfortable position.
Go Beyond Gaming into Real Music Built by the engineers at Alesis, one of the largest manufacturers of professional electronic drums in the world, the Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set delivers the most realistic drumming experience available to a gamer. But when you're ready to move from playing the game to playing in a real life, you can swap the game controller module with one of the professional drum brains made by Alesis, such as their DM5 drum module, or any other drum brain that accepts a quarter-inch output. (Drum modules are sold separately.) And with the option of purchasing a third cymbal, you can round out your kit and move beyond gaming and onto the stage.
The Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set is compatible with both Rockband and Rockband 2 for the Xbox 360.What's in the Box: Aluminum drum rack, 4 drum pads, 2 cymbals, drum pedal, all mounting hardware and connecting cords, and 2 drumsticks.

This drum set is awesome. The cymbals definitely add to the feeling of playing a drum set. I recommend that you sit back just a little bit while playing so the drum sticks don't keep hitting the bottom of the cymbals though. If you have Guitar Hero, then you should definitely have this drum set. If you have Rock Band though, you need to get the Rock Band drum set as well.

Rock Band 2 Double Cymbal Expansion Kit Review

Rock Band 2 Double Cymbal Expansion Kit
Average Reviews:

Second Update 12/16/2008: UPS just dropped a package from Mad Catz. They didn't fix my broken cymbal, they sent me an entirely new package, cymbal, mounting hardware and all.
No note included saying what was wrong, or anything, just a new cymbal. It looks like it's been handled, which probably means that someone tested it out to make sure it worked right, before they sent it to me (or that it's a refurbished.)
I tried it out, and all seems well. Kudos to Mad Catz for the excellent customer service. Their site says 4 to 6 weeks, and it only took 12 days from drop off, to return. I'm psyched.
Update: After playing for an hour or so this afternoon, it's evident that one of my cymbals is defective. It's sometimes registering two hits, instead of one. I called Mad Catz, and the guy I got was super friendly, extremely understanding, and set me up with an RMA. He said the website suggested 4-6 weeks, but realistically, it's more like 2 to 3. I'll update again when I get the new cymbal to see if it's working properly. I'm glad I didn't just try returning it to Amazon to get another, they appear to be completely sold out everywhere I've checked today. Glad I pre-ordered mine 3 months ago.
My three pack finally arrived last night, and I was psyched to get them. Ever since they were announced, I've been excited about them. The way I assumed they worked, was actually different than how they do work. More on that later.
First, some images, to show how freaking cool they look:
The whole kitHi-Hat CymbalRide Cymbal
The cymbals certainly give the drums the look of a real drumkit (okay, at least a real electronic drumkit,) but how do they play?
They take some getting used to, that's for sure. I just got them last night, so I'm still in the adjusting phase. But right from the get go, my wife said "You look like you're having more fun." Which I totally was. It felt like I was playing more realistically than I had without the cymbals.
When I first bought the cymbals, I assumed that they would just act as extenders of their respective colors. So when you'd hit the blue, it made whatever sound the blue one should at that specific point in time. As Rock Banders know, the drums pretty much all double as cymbals or drums, depending on the part of the song. I was pleasantly surprised that the new cymbal pads are dedicated as cymbals. So, if you hit the "ride" cymbal, it makes the ride cymbal no matter what. Same for the hi-hat, and crash cymbals.
It may throw your brain off, when you hit the cymbal when it's a tom-tom in the game, and you hear the wrong sound, but it won't break your streak, or count against your overall score. As long as you hit the right color, the sound that the game makes doesn't matter.
My favorite thing about the other game, you know, that one I returned already, was that there were dedicated cymbal pads with their drumkit. The Rock Band 2 drumkit, with the Mad Catz add-on cymbal pack (a measely $29.99) is 100% totally, absolutely better than GHWT's, hands down.
The game is more fun when playing drums, with the cymbals. It's more realistic, and more creative. I especially dig that during the "Overdrive fills", you can be a lot more musical with the drums, with dedicated toms/cymbals. If you're a die hard drummer for a Rock Band band, you absolutely need to spend the $29.99 to get these cymbals, pronto.

Rock Band Drum Pedal - Rock Pedal - PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Rock Band 1 and 2, ION Drum Rocker

The Rock Pedal is a fantastic bass pedal. I spent days going over review after review of the "big three" (Omega, Destroyer, Rock) before finally settling with this one. As of right now, it's been a few weeks and I must say I'm pretty happy with it, although my sentiments weren't the same when I first got it.
First off, let me say, if you're not an experienced drummer or if you have no patience, don't bother trying to adjust the pedal. Jordan, who I'm guessing is the RP inventor, makes youtube videos on how to adjust it, and he whips right through it "oh it's easy, you just do this, this and bam you're done". The problem is not everyone has adjusted a bass pedal, so after seeing him do it so easy while you spend an hour trying to find the perfect calibration gets pretty tiring.
So after the first time of getting it calibrated, I was ready to see how this thing could handle a song with lots of heavy pounding bass, so I chose Indestructible, which is one I had gold starred before getting this pedal. Much to my dismay, apparently I didn't tighten it enough and it just sank to the bottom and never came back about halfway through.
However, after spending another good amount of time getting it calibrated, and making sure the bolts are super tight, it's been absolutely perfect. It's been a couple weeks now and I have a roommate who loves to play super hard and stomp the hell out of it for whatever reason and several other friends of mine have used it, loved it and had no problems. It took some getting used to but now I could never go back.
PROS: Unbreakable no-contact sensor, heavy duty construction, DOES NOT SLIDE on carpets, very willing and supportive customer service team.
CONS: Initial adjustments were incredibly painstaking but in the end, totally worth it.

Rock Pedal is a Rock Band drum pedal replacement. Since the stock pedal often breaks, and is always a hurdle to getting those fast double hits, Rock Pedal is the drum pedal for serious Rockers. Known for it's durability (backed up by the 12-month warranty) and it's ability to raise scores, Rock Pedal has taken the Rock Band community by storm.A super strong pedal that is VERY adjustable, will get you higher scores, has a 30-day money back guarantee or "test drive", a 12-month warranty, and Grade A customer service--that's Rock Pedal

Okay so, I really really enjoy music games. The first time I played this on an older HDTV it was okay. Not the best game ever, but overall I didn't mind it much.
However when I bought a new TV and thought I would buy the game because I found it for 5 bucks things went downhill. This new TV has a high refresh rate and it caused the game to kind of "skip". I don't really know how to describe it. But I do know that after a few songs I had gotten quite a headache, and was very sick to my stomach.
Another thing to point out is that, unlike Rock Band and the Newer Guitar Hero games, there are no vocals in this game. I only point this out because my friend bought this initially and was really excited to play. She brought it over and said "I'm singing!" and I said "on that?"
"yeah why? Do the vocals suck?"
"There are no vocals"
She said she wouldn't have bought it if she had known. So I thought it is a fair warning.
I mean for a few bucks it's worth a shot if you really really like music games or you just want an easy way to boost your gamer score, but if you have a HDTV with a fast refresh rate it's going to look strange. The straight down view didn't help much either.

Xbox 360 Rock Band Stage Kit Review

Xbox 360 Rock Band Stage Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just picked this up after several weeks of considering it to be a very expensive novelty...$100 for an audio-sensing light show and fog machine? Heck...you can pick up a ton of stuff at a local Spencer's Gifts for that price, so why bother with this? It was only when I read that the kit actually SYNCS with the music in Rock Band 2 that I took a closer look.
This kit does NOT use cheap audio sensors to work, e.g. the lights aren't dependent on the beat to function like some cheap novelty light from Spencer's. Instead, each song in Rock Band 1/2 has a specific light show that has been specifically programmed to match, and the kit automatically senses and responds to the songs you've selected. The synchronization is UNCANNY. The strobe fires in JUST the right parts, and is used very sparingly so as not to diminish the effect. The timing of the fogger kicking on is also quite good. For example, it will automatically turn on a few seconds before a killer guitar solo so that you have a great cloud around you when it begins...NICE.
Pros:
1. Now that I have played RB with this kit, playing without it is NOT the same. I'm spoiled with this kit...it makes fake-rocking-out SO much more fun. The fun factor of Rock Band, which is great to begin with, goes right over the top with this kit.
2. Setup is fast and easy. Simply plug the LED unit into the fogger, then plug the fogger into the wall and power up the heating element. It takes perhaps 30 seconds or so to reach operating temperature. Plug the kit into one of the USB ports on the Xbox, and power it on. The unit will do the rest.
3. The fog that came with the unit seemed to dissipate pretty quickly, and was essentially odorless, however I have cathedral ceilings where the unit is used, so a smaller room would likely be much more concentrated in terms of the density of the fog. After about 45 minutes of playing, the entire lower level of my house had a nice haze, but it was completely dissipated after about 15 minutes or so.
4. Durability seems pretty good on the fogger. It seems to be solidly built and resembles the nicer foggers you see for sale around Halloween.
5. As stated above, integration with the game is EXCELLENT. Lots of different patterns with the LED kit, and once you've got some decent fog in the room, the lights really add an interesting dynamic to the game, almost resembling lasers when the lens is set to maximum focus.
Cons:
1. The container of fog solution that comes with the kit is perhaps a half-liter, and does not last long at all. I spent the entire bottle in under an hour, and some songs definitely use more fog than others. I'd recommend buying additional water-based fog solution (I have been unable to locate any official RB fluid locally) ASAP...you will go through the starter bottle very quickly. I ran out and now need to go to Guitar Center or a local party store to buy more.
2. The red and yellow LEDs in the unit are pretty underpowered, though the blue and green are quite bright. It would have been nicer had the red/yellow LEDs been brighter, but they still work quite well in a darkened room. (note - any significant ambient light in the room will heavily diminish the effect, so play in the dark!)
3. The fog machine is a bit noisy when it is firing, but that's nothing that turning up the volume won't fix. :-)
4. The cable that connects the fogger to the LED unit is ridiculously short, perhaps 3-4' max. This forces you to put the units rather close together...not a bad thing, but it limits some flexibility unless you get a longer cable.
Overall, this unit is a great addition to Rock Band 2 if you can afford the price. Were it not for the syncing of the music to the kit, I'd say it was overpriced, but now that I have the kit, I don't regret the purchase at all, and my kids absolutely LOVE it.

Xbox 360 Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums Review

Xbox 360 Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all i would like to say this game is a lot of fun and a great invention. The drums are very realistic, and so are the beats. As a real drummer I can say that it realates well to actually playing drums except for the fact it only has two cymbals and three drums.
THe first thing that broke on my drum set was the hardware and the stand. Occasionly i would find screws and bolts that go on the drum set on the floor. I have no clue how they got out of place. The next thing that broke was the orange/crash/ride/right cymbal. it would not work if i hit it, even with a very large amount of force. the next thing that broke was the yellow/high hat/left cymbal. same problem
all of that happened, and i havent even had the game for a year yet.
One thing is that i played this game at the expert level and played it everyday usually more then once. So you could say i was hard on the drum set.
The game is very very fun and enjoyable and even better when playing with other people or online. THe only problem is the drum set breaks. I recommnd buying the game and drumset because it is totally worth it even if it does break in a somewhat short amount of time. For me, I did not mind replacing it because I love the game so much. But instead of replacing it with the Guitar Hero brand drums, I bought the Rockband 2 set which consists of only four drums heads and a foot pedal but no cymbals. That alone costed only 40 dollars. I also bought the three cymbal expansion pack for the rockband drums for only 40 dollars as well. so i get three drum heads, and three cymbals for cheaper then this drumset which is less sterdy.
So i recommend buying this drum set first, to see how much u like the game and if u experienced the same problems i did, then buy the rockband set and expansion pack for 20 dollars cheaper. HOPE THIS HELPED AND HAVE FUN

Logitech Xbox 360 Wireless Drum Controller Review

Logitech Xbox 360 Wireless Drum Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
>>> Summary
(-1 star on value, -1 star unusable pedal, -1 star noisy cymbals)
This Logitech kit is difficult to evaluate; one of the most puzzling products I've reviewed. Put simply, it's a significantly more adjustable replacement of the stock GHWT kit for 3x the price, which happens to be slightly less than the price of the Ion Drum Rocker.
The Ion Drum Rocker is more adjustable, quieter, explicitly supports RB, supports 3rd party pedals, ships with an additional pad (which makes playing RB easier) and a higher quality metal bass pedal for just $20 more. Granted, the Logitech kit doesn't suffer from some of the construction issues the Ion does (the Logitech kit is a one-piece, collapsible set - it's main advantage) although with the Ion you just get so much more.
Please have a read of my impressions below and comment if you think there's something I could be missing. As it stands, I'm just puzzled as to how Logitech could release this product at this price. If it were say, half the price then it would be a no-brainer. Sure it wouldn't be as feature-rich as the Ion though at half the price, understandably so.
The Good:
- Solid, one-piece construction means compact folding and storage is possible.
- Adjustable: orientation, height and tilt of cymbals, same for the pads. Height of the set is also adjustable.
- Pads are quieter than the stock RB set. Same muted sound as the GHWT set, which I prefer to the higher-pitched hit of the RB pads.
- Adjustability requires no tools.
- Rock Band compatible! Although to be expected given that the stock GHWT drums are as well.
The Not So Good:
- The cost is 5-10 times more expensive than the stock RB2 drums and 3x more expensive than the GHWT drums. If it came with a real pedal than I could forgive a big chunk of this as the after-market pedals are upwards of $100.
- Questionable support for 3rd party pedals. This is important because the included pedal is a no go for at least two reasons: GH logo on the pedal means you cannot play in bare feet or socks. The pedal has very little tension and because it's plastic, it slides around the floor.
- Without the big, rubbery GHWT-style cymbals to absorb the hits, they're really loud as they transfer the force of the hit through the structure of the set.
- It can get crowded around the control unit, if you find yourself having to adjust things. Really just a problem during initial setup, though if you setup and teardown frequently you'll have to deal with it.
- With all that adjustability you might find yourself having to tighten things every so often. Small price to pay, though it is there. Again, really just a problem during initial setup, though if you setup and teardown frequently you'll have to deal with it.
- The D-pad on the control unit feels really, really flimsy as though it could break or pop out at any moment. Not a big deal since you can use the drums themselves in place of the D-pad. Still though, for the price this should feel solid.
>>> Review:
I've been an avid (yet talentless) game drummer since Rock Band was released in late 2007 all the way through GHWT and RB2. To give you an idea of my exposure and time with the RB/RB2/GHWT stock drums, let's say that I've completed 100% of every song in each of those games on Hard and about 50% on Expert. I've also owned the Omega and Rock Pedal custom pedals (and broken the stock RB pedal a few times). So, plenty of hours with all 3 kits. When I had the opportunity to get my hands on the Logitech set for the 360 via Vine, I jumped at the chance.
I own only RB2 and RB:Beatles at the moment, having sold GHWT long ago. The GHWT and RB sets are cross-compatible so I figured this set should work with RB and good news: it works perfectly! I'm confused why the packaging is Guitar Hero-branded. There's a massive logo on the box (you could easily confuse with an official GHWT peripheral) and a matching GH logo sketched in to the pedal (more on that later). Why they wouldn't list RB2 compatibility is strange; likely some branding agreement with Activision. Anyway...
The first thing you'll notice is how compact the set is. It arrives in a box 6" x 25" x 31". It's thinner but wider than the RB2 set when folded down, and the one-piece construction means it isn't a clumsy pile of disconnected plastic behind the couch. It folds down (with effort - there's a lot of stuff to loosen) into a less-than-6" unit that you can slide right under the couch. Well, my couch at least ;)
Setup was a snap. It's all one piece so there was no fumbling around for spare parts. Extend the legs, rotate the base to the front, plug in the cymbals and you're good to go. The whole thing took about 10 minutes and most of that was getting it out of the packaging. This is where the Logitech kit shines in comparison to the Ion.
The construction of the pads is more reminiscent of the GHWT drums than the RB drums. The bolts around the pads give it a solid, well-built feel, identical in appearance to the Ion pads.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the cymbals. The cymbals seem cheap and plastic-y in comparison to the stock GHWT kit. Perhaps I'll end up forgiving this since the GHWT cymbals were a nightmare, both in reliability and sensitivity.
>>> After One Song: (Expert, Panic at the Disco - Nine in the Afternoon)
Nice slow warmup to get a feel for the set. About 30 seconds in to the song, I realized there was no way I could finish without reordering the pads which are by default setup for GHWT. While paused, I unplugged all of the pads from the control unit and removed them from the bar (the silver bar shown in the product image). I did all of this in about 30 seconds and was right back in to the song. Score one for quick adjustability of the set.
Towards the end of the song, I noticed two things and they were both about the pedal:
1) Where the heck was it and why is my leg practically outstretched?
2) Why does my foot hurt?
Coming from any of the custom drum pedals, there's just no comparison to the stock pedals. The pedal for the Logitech set is no exception. There's almost no tension (although this is adjustable, it doesn't matter) and with such a plastic-y feel, it's not surprising that it slides around on the carpet.
The worst part about the pedal though, that makes it inferior to even the stock GHWT or RB pedals is the "Guitar Hero" logo imprint. Unless you've comfortably walked over a bed of nails or hot coals, there's no way you can play in bare feet or with socks on. Had to put on shoes to play, which was a little strange. I've watched a LOT of expert FC vids on Youtube and nobody drums with shoes on. Why should we expect less from this expensive set?
By the end of the song, the blue pad had rotated 45 degrees to the left although I didn't stop to fix it, having too much fun. Just need a bit more tightening underneath.
>>> After Two Songs: (Expert, Dinosaur Junior - Feel the Pain)
Before starting, I removed the orange cymbal as it just gets in the way since the RB charts only have 4 notes.
Much more action on the yellow cymbal in this song. About 30 seconds in I was missing the yellow cymbal completely as it had rotated to the left and was pointing away from me; same problem I just fixed with the blue pad - when you've tightened them, keep going because it's not as much as you think.
After tightening the yellow cymbal, the hits on the cymbal became noticeably louder. I believe this is because the force of my hits was being dissipated by the weak connection to the frame. Now that I had tightened it, it sounds like the whole set is making noise when I hit. Loosened the grip on the main bar and yep - definitely more quiet.
I also noticed that my accuracy went down and I wasn't sure why. After playing these games for so long, things can just "feel" off and something felt off - reminded me of the feeling I got when the first two stock GHWT kits I had shipped with sensitivity issues in the cymbals. I went into the Drum Trainer Freestyle mode and didn't notice anything funky, so back to the game.
>>> After Three Songs: (Expert, Rise Against - Re-eduction (Through Labor))
By this point, I'm comfortable with the set in spite of the low quality pedal (p.s. it doesn't work with the Rock Pedal custom pedal, not that I expected it to). I've got the pads and yellow cymbal right where I want it and I don't even need to wear headphones to drown the drum noise (like I do with the RB drums).
>>> Summary:
The big question - is it worth it?
As of this writing, the Ion kit is just about $20 more. As I mentioned in the summary, you just get so much more with the Ion I can't see why anyone would consider this set.
Strangely enough, if there's one thing this set did is make me realize I should definitely pick up the Ion set. It's so much more fun with the right drums in the right orientation!
I'll do my best to answer questions in the comments, thanks for reading :)

Xbox 360 Rock Band Portable Drum Kit Review

I got this drum because it's cheap and I thought maybe at least something about it would be fun to mess around with. I have an ion, but my pedal is too loud and I also wanted to get something I could take with me on the go to a friends' house. Well this thing worked as well as the other reviewers have said. The pedal in this kit is better and makes less impact noise than any pedal on the market, and if you can stick the pads down in one place, they seem to work perfectly as well. The only downside is that you pretty much have to use this with the included sticks, because the pads are too hard. The sticks in the box are rubber to compensate. Using wooden sticks on these is too loud to stand.
Another added perk of this kit is that the controller can be plugged in standalone and used like an NES controller for arcade games, as long as the games don't use the shoulder buttons. Also, people who are interested in modding projects can use the little controller part as the "brain" for a custom drum kit. People have used this to turn their nice electronic kits into RB kits!
Let me reiterate again that the pedal on this is better than the stock ion pedal in terms of noise and equal in function. Get a 1/4" to 1/8" converter and use it with your ion.
In every way, this product is worth your money if you're looking for any of the above features.
ADDITION: I am adding this to the review as a caution: the sticks that this comes with seem to be susceptible to breaking at the middle where they screw together. Now, I know that all drum sticks break eventually, but just be prepared to try to locate some rubber-head sticks as backups because you really can't play this too well with a wooden head.
UPDATE 6/29/09: The pedal for this is still working great, and I still use it with my expensive Ion drum kit. I play on expert now better than ever, and this pedal is very accurate and much easier to double tap to get those super-rapid beats. The official pedal I bought recently doesn't respond well at all to quick rapid pushes like this does. I even got a second portable kit just so I could have a spare, and the second one works just as well.
