Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

It has been a while since a decent Harry Potter game has been released, the last note worthy game that came out was back on the xbox, Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets, the game played full out like a Zelda style of an adventure game, and had alot going for it in the fun gameplay department, Now we fast forward 3 years later to Potter's 5th year at Hogwarts.Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix (which i will refer to from here on as HP:OOP) has taken a new step into the HP gaming franchise, the developers of the game EA have gone full on to make a virtual and near perfect rendition of the entire school of Hogwarts. Yes you can explore everything from the Library, to Hagrids Hut, or even Mertels Bathroom. There are loads of secrets to be found i the game through what is known as Discoveries. By simply using your Non combat magic you can clean up messes, fix things, move around furniture, start fires etc, there is so much stuff you can do its not funny. At any point in the game once you start learning your Defence against the dark arts magic, you can approach certain characters and challenge them to a duel so to speak, you can recruit lots of people and have them trained into Dumblerdores Army, Which goes into the story line of the Order of the Phoenix, You can attend classes and learn lots of HP universe stuff, you can play HORDES of mini games, from Chess, to Memory Cards etc... The list goes on, Not to mention this type of game is PERFECT for the Xbox 360 Achievments, there is alot to do and achievments to push you to do them.Graphically the game is quite impressive, there is excellent use of architecture throughout the game, the lighting and character models are top rate, and not to forget Its all in HD (1080p for me), The game has no loads times what so ever and never really has any problems with the framerate ever. Sound is well produced with the already famous HP themed music, and all the voice acting is done professionally by the actual Movie Actors and Actresses. A very nice touch to the game original Authenticity. Everything is produced in a loud bass pumping Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, so crank it up and enjoy. The games overall lasting value is quite high if your a Potter fan because you will want to collect and find everything the game has to offer and unlock all the extra content which is load upon loads of movies, story boards, pictures, interviews etc.. Now i see why they didnt' release a Special Edition of the game because they were smart and kind enough to load it all in the game as part of the accomplishments pursued in the game.
I highly recommned the game to anyone that enjoys a solid adventure style of game, as well as a great story telling or fantasy style of story.
Of course if you area Potter fan passing this game up is like passing on reading the last book. So if you have any doubts get it, if you see the movie and then play the game it will make it all that much better. But remember the game does reveal the story so if you don't already know what happens then be fore warned.Pros:
+Graphics are well suited for a HP game
+The sound is Crisp and Well pronuounced in DD5.1
+Loads of things to do, Huge School to exlore
+Story holds true to the book and the movie
+No Load Times
+Lots of Unlockables
Cons:
-No Multiplayer
-No Xbox Live content to be found?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Review

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Disclaimer: This review is only for the Kinect portion of the game.
Every time I buy video games or movies without doing my homework I get burned! This game falls in that category...I bought it with the idea that you could play the whole thing with Kinect, and I was disappointed. It's not that the Kinect challenges aren't any fun, I just wish they weren't such a tiny portion of the overall game. Each challenge takes about 5 minutes to complete. I find it entertaining, just not what I'd hoped for.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Review

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

This game is really short and really bad. Unless you are buying this game for the achievements it generously hands out, look elsewhere for a better game.
The graphics in this game are very bad for an Xbox 360 game and the animation is equally as bad. The platforming can be very frustration and would be difficult for the younger audience that this game is geared towards. The light puzzle solving is generally straightforward and easy to understand after a moment of using the tools at your disposal.
This game has a list of faults with little to none aspects on which it should be rewarded. It is nothing but a cash in movie game, that offers pretty much nothing to the younger gaming audience.
Don't buy this game!

Get ready for a story so epic it could only unfold in the corridors of the worldâs largest museum - the Smithsonian Institution. Museum guard-turned entrepreneur Larry Daly discovers that his favorite exhibits, and some of his best friends, from New Yorkâs Natural History Museum are being shipped off to the archives at the Smithsonian. Larry gets a distress call from the miniature cowboy, Jedediah, reporting that Egyptian ruler Kahmunrah and a trio of heinous henchmen - namely Ivan the Terrible, Napoleon and Al Capone - are plotting to take over the museum, then the world. Speeding to the nationâs capitol, Larry is clearly in over his head. But with some impressive new pals, including the irrepressible Amelia Earhart, along with familiar friends Teddy Roosevelt and Octavius, Larry will stop at nothing to restore the Smithsonian before dawn.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Review

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Average Reviews:

Hello, need reader canary talented really.
The above mess is a Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince video game experience. And I know despite what I write, if you're here you will end up playing the game anyway, hoping I'm mistaken. I will continue if only to persuade you to rent the game at best or wait for the inevitable, monstrous price drop.
To Begin - The Story, Characters, and Sound:
If you needed to write a report on the Half-Blood Prince film, this video game wouldn't even be acceptable as cliff notes. Scenes cut in and out, not caring about anything silly like making sense.
The video game starts with a random brush up with Quidditch at the Burrow and then bipolars you straight to the scene in Diagon Alley with Draco Malfoy. Why? That question should be read as a scream.
And from there you jump from moment to moment like a mental patient, who isn't improving.
As far as the characters in this cliff note of cliff notes, everyone is at least acceptable or great. Great, as in the case of when the film actors lend their voice (the focus being on Rupert Grint-Ron). The acceptable being characters like Snape and generally the look of everyone. There is one huge exception: Hermione. The actress who lends her voice is fine, but the rendered character looks nothing like Emma Watson. She looks more like Mema Witson, and while she's a great girl and all, Mema isnt in Harry Potter. The real problem is that Harry and Ron look reasonably similar to Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint (having gone through the work in the previous game, whereas Emma Watson did not, to my knowledge) so Hermione, aka Mema Witson, stands out.
The music of the games is always either nice or fantastic. This game favors more toward simply nice, but whoever thought that adding a record scratch to highlight an awkward moment between Harry and Ginny was a good idea; way to stand out, my man. That was truly A+ dumb.
Well, I'd love to continue with my review, but I need to have a duel.
The Middle, Gameplay?:
The Order of the Phoenix game had 3 things going for it: a beautiful Hogwarts, most of the film actors participated, and the painting that loved Chops and Gravy. Yum yum yum yum, gravy. This game?
Duel, quidditch (by which I mean flying through stars), and potions. Potions, duel, quidditch, punch making? Duel, potions, duel, quidditch. That is the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince game.
And while dueling is far more refined here than in previous games, it pops up everywhere, and all you need to do is knock your opponent down once with Expelliarmus (yes, I looked up how to spell a lot of things in this review) and it's game over. And while potions can be fun, these are side games and side games do not a video game make. I get the feeling that, oh hold on. I need to duel again.
As I was saying, if EA would just put itself in a timeout and make a game based on several movies, we'd actually get an inspired gift of a game as opposed to these socks we keep getting. Or even if they, oh, I don't know, gave a damn? EA has done a Quidditch game before, so why isn't there at least a full on game here instead of Harry going through stars? Why can't we control other characters in actual mission, versus doing the same things Harry does (how fun would a thought out Luna side-mission be?). And whereas Order of the Phoenix was nothing but a list of chores to do, Half-Blood Prince is the same only with your mom running out of patience with you. GO PRACTICE QUIDDITCH NOW!!!!.
The only beauty comes from a very beautiful source, the character of Luna Lovegood. As you're lighting fireworks, and trying very hard but unsuccessfully to get a great look at Hogwarts lit by the exploding color wheel, Luna pleads "I wish fireworks didnt have an end."
The End:
This game was supposed to be released in November '08, as was the film (damn you Warner Brothers). But stock market greed from Warner's pushed the due date to June '09. And what did EA do with that extra time? Worked on Madden 11?
But that's irrelevant. To EA, this game was never meant to be anything but a cash grab, and all the extra time + 1 would never have made it any better. Ever since the Prisoner of Azkaban game, EA's effort with Harry Potter has equaled my effort in personal grooming when I was 12. Let's say, not so great. But the films and the books have been about love and bravery and effort. Where is any of that in these games? Where is it?
I really want better things to say, but ..... I solemnly swear this game is no good.

The Story In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the Video Game, Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different, but equally unavoidable adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates. And then there's Hermione, simmering with jealously, but determined not to show her feelings. Yet as romance blossoms throughout Hogwarts, one student remains aloof.
