Konami Classics Volume 1 Review

Konami Classics Volume 1

The other reviewer brought up the point that $20 is a little expensive for a "classics pack". Most of the time, I would say that is a valid argument when deciding to purchase a game, but in this case, I beg to differ. Consider this:
A)Contra is awesome.
B)Frogger, while not an amazing title, is still pretty fun.
C)This package includes Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
For me SotN is the big draw here. This classic game was the epitomy of sidescrolling action, and had incredible graphics and controls. Now, Symphony of the Night was released on the original PS more than ten years ago, but it's fun and value have not diminished in the slightest. In fact, the value of SotN has skyrocketed (one word?), with the original game selling for about $130. Besides getting the game itself, the graphics have been upgraded to 720p HD (you can choose to play with the classic graphics or the upgraded ones)! An incredible deal when you consider the price of the orignal game. And you get two other classic games!

Konami Classics Volume 2 Review

It's quite simple, $[...] for 3 classic games is a complete rip off. There are many other Classic Packs from later generation consoles that package upwards of 20 games for the same price. Do yourself a favor and put that $20 towards something that is worth it. Do not let Microsoft take your money so easily, make them work for it.

Qubed Review

Qubed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Qubed includes the following three games, Lumines: Live, RezHD, and Every Extend Extra Extreme. These 3 games are absolutely brilliant, and this package is ABSOLUTELY worth 20 bucks. If you were to buy all of them separately you would be paying at least 30 to 40 bucks. So this is a no brainer. If you have an Xbox 360, you need to have this to complete your game collection.
There is a brief interview with the designer of the games, Tetsuya Mizuguchi. It's very interesting, really shows how he strives to set his games apart as experiences that use not just your reflexes, but that stimulate both the eyes and ears. Gives you a better appreciation for the games in Qubed.
So do yourself a favor, and get this for your Xbox, you won't regret it.

PopCap Arcade Vol. 1 (Bejeweled 2, Astro Pop, Feeding Frenzy, Zuma) Review

PopCap Arcade Vol. 1 (Bejeweled 2, Astro Pop, Feeding Frenzy, Zuma)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you price these separately on Xbox Live Marketplace, you'll find that this collection on disc is actually a decent value. And unlike purchasing the digital download equivalents from Xbox Live Marketplace, you will be able to resell this disc later if you no longer want it.
Of the four games, the most entertaining games for me are probably "Feeding Frenzy" and "Zuma". "Feeding Frenzy" is somewhat easy to complete, offering two different modes -- a basic 'career' mode and then a 'timed' mode. The controls are decent, requiring twitchy thumb movements because your "fish" never actually stops floating in the play area. "Zuma" is addictive -- it gets very fast-paced and hectic and you'll find your heart racing at times just trying to stay ahead of the increasingly challenging levels. The music is extremely entertaining and addictive. "Bejeweled" comes in as my third favorite, and is a very simple game to understand and play. If you've played Hexix HD, and you can find patterns in colors, you can play "Bejeweled". "Astropop" made the least impression on me, and is not the type of game I enjoy playing. It involves building groups of like-colored blocks in order to "pop" them, as they descend from the top of the screen, with the goal to clear the screen. It's not a difficult game, but after a short while I did not find it very entertaining.
What is odd about the collection is the way it runs from the Xbox 360 console. When you insert the disc, the game disc will load, and then deposit you back on the 360's dashboard, in your list of Arcade titles where the games will be listed. When you select a game from the list, the disc spins-up, and the game starts. I probably would have preferred an on-disc menu -- in other words, if you start the disc, you can select one of the four games from a "game" menu. The game disc runs/spins the entire time you are playing, so your console ends up being much louder than if you purchased the downloadable content versions from the Marketplace. This is unfortunate since the games are very small in size.
The games include the same achievements that are available in the downloadable versions, so there is a total of 800 achievement points available. The achievements are somewhat challenging, which gives this collection excellent replay value, depending upon how much you like each of the individual titles.
Overall, a good collection for the money, with decent replay value, and potentially good future resale value as well.

Namco Museum Virtual Arcade Review

Namco Museum Virtual Arcade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was the first game I popped into my 360 when I got my console, and much to my horror, every time I tried to access Galaga or Pac Man Championship Editions, I got booted back to the regular menu. I feared the worst--that I hadn't actually bought these games with my disc, but somehow, I had been scammed into getting access to them on Xbox Live by purchasing the disc. Even when I did some research online, many reviews made it sound like this was the case. But I...um...dig dug deeper and found this is NOT the case as some reviews have clarified here, but I'm going to clarify even further. I did NOT have any connection to the internet for my 360 when I finally accessed the games, so I know you don't need any kind of Live account to do it. The games, as others have said, are not accessible through the general menu on the game disc itself. You have to hit the round 'X' button in the center of your controller (while the game disc is in the console) and go to your xbox 360's main dashboard then maneuver through the menus to your list of games supposedly on your xobx 360 (this is RIDICULOUS). There you'll find the seemingly inaccessible games to choose from, but of course, those games aren't REALLY on your xbox 360, otherwise they'd still be there when you remove the disc from the console! Dumbest setup EVER.

Gears of War Triple Pack Review

Gears of War Triple Pack
Average Reviews:

Excellent collection of an incredible series, an advance to the third.
It is a very good buy especially for those like me are new jumping at the XBOX 360.
This package comes with original Gears of War, and its sequel, and the DLC, in physical form and other digital download.
Is definitely a great opportunity to enjoy two great games at a reduced price.
