The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Review

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those of you who don't remember, Monkey Island was an adventure game developed by Lucas Arts nearly 20 years ago. You play as pirate-wannabe Guybrush Threepwood and attempt to uncover the secret of MI as well as defeating the ghost pirate Captain LeChuck and win over the governor of Melee Island, Elaine. It spawned 3 sequels but since the last one was made in 2000, things have been pretty quiet to the point where I thought we'd seen the last of Guybrush Threepwood. Lucas Arts have dusted off the cobwebs and Monkey Island has now been re-made in beautiful HD graphics, newly recorded music with live instruments and best of all with added voice over from the cast of the previous 2 MI games. This is a dream come true for MI fans like myself and a great way to introduce this classic to a new generation of gamers. An added bonus is you can switch back to classic mode at any point during the game just to compare how things looked back then. It's a fun way to see how far we've advanced in the last couple decades. Other than the improvements, the game remains intact without any unnecessary changes. My only criticism would be the new redesigned characters look way too cartoony for my taste and I hate what they've done with Guybrush's hair. Otherwise, it's a blast to play this game again and here's hoping that a Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is in the works.

Fallout 3: Point Lookout Review

Fallout 3: Point Lookout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this as an online download. I played it with a level 20-30 character(after installing the Broken Steel download that raises the level cap), and earned about 4 levels while playing it through. I think this would still be an excellent experience even playing with a level-maxed character, because of the tight quests and very effectively staged battles.
This add-on is so good--it not only adds an additional mini-world, Point Lookout, that you travel to from the Wasteland (at any point in your game, and you can go back and forth), **it adds another large building to the Wasteland itself in order to flesh out one of the quests originating in Point Lookout**(--I was incorrect about this, see comment). It also provides several new weapons, and a few new creature types. The new weapons can be added to your inventory and be used back in the original Wasteland setting.
You can't take Dogmeat or any other companions along on to this location- the computer has them automatically wait for you back at their home bases. Just as well, since the feeling of being all alone and far from your usual base of operations serves to increase the tension and jeopardy.
The Point Lookout environment is a really welcome change of pace from the Wasteland. It combines white trash Maryland with some white trash Louisiana flavorings, and uses lots of new textures, graphic elements, and building designs to create a very unique look, in comparison to the endless slog through concrete rubble that you may be tired of back in DC. Atmospheric swamps, ramshackle inbred family farms, dilapidated mansions, a rural prison camp, and submerged caverns are a few of the settings.
The new enemy types are really fierce- truly nauseating inbred locals that will remind you of mutated versions of the Appalachian rednecks from Deliverance or the inbred family from that infamous X-files episode(!), complete with some "I'm gonna make you squeal!"-type scripting. They employ the new weapons, such as a nastily accurate rifle, and a mule-kicking double-barreled shotgun. These muties and some other enemies in the module can be quite a challenge, as many fights will have so many enemies, coming at you so quickly, that they will really test your VATS point-management and free-targeting abilities, as well as your tactical skills in laying mines, using cover, and employing various weapons.
In fact, the best aspect of the combat in this module is that many of the fights are incredibly staged set-pieces, with enemies coming at you in waves, employing the environment--they blow holes through ceilings and jump down, blast a hole in the wall and pour through, shoot at your from rooftops while their allies storm your position--in short, these foes come at YOU, in scripted and staged battles that will make your pulse pound. This lends a highly frenetic and tense pace to the action in many places--a sense of urgency that was lacking in many of the original campaign's fights.
Of note as well is the nice balance between tightly plotted quests with some choices to make in how to carry them out, a bit of exploration time to wander, and a good balance between indoor and outdoor locales. In short, I loved it--awesome combat, totally fresh change-of-pace from the original setting: all-in-all, well worth the money.

You can also leave the power connected and audio directly connected to the seat during game play.

Bejeweled 2 Review

Bejeweled 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Puzzle games are a great way to spend time, and Bejeweled 2 is one of the best ones. The addictive matching frenzy of the original Bejeweled spawned plenty of copy cats that had you matching candy, advertising icons, and other images. Bejeweled 2 improves on its predecessor with the inclusion of new gems and different modes.
If you want this game, this is an expensive way to get it. Save yourself some money and get it on Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged along with five other games. You could also buy it as part of PopCap Arcade Vol. 1 (Bejeweled 2, Astro Pop, Feeding Frenzy, Zuma). Unless you only want this one game, I would opt for one of the compilations.

Madden NFL 2006 Review

Madden NFL 2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Madden NFL has been around for quite a while, and has built up an incredible reputation. The XBox 360 launch release has great graphics - but a few flaws.
Let's start with the great parts. We have a high definition TV and the graphics were just gorgeous. You can see the details of the face, the definition of the muscles, the details of the uniforms. The stadiums have signs in them promoting the home team.
That being said, we noticed some issues with graphics right away. Some of the camera angles are just awful, and made it really hard to connect a player with a ball. The fans in the stand look like robots. Also, with the incredible detail they put into the character models, some simply aren't right.
I'm happy to deal with even mediocre graphics if the gameplay is stellar. After all, it's the gameplay that keeps you going for months and months. We ran into problems here, too, though. The XBox 360 console crashed only halfway through our first game - and that was only the beginning.
You can't challenge plays, either, even though some seem mighty suspect.
There might be some players who really like the changes, and who can deal with the crashes and bugs. If you think that might be you, then certainly rent it for a week and see. After a week you should be able to tell how well you enjoy it and if you want to buy it. I definitely feel this is a test-before-you-buy title.

Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: Mothership Zeta Review

Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: Mothership Zeta
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mothership Zeta DLC for Fallout 3 marks the final installment of expansions for the game, and what a way to wrap it all up!
Fallout 3 was my pick for best game of 2008. After nearly a year after it's release, I still play it like it was brand new, and that would be
true even without all the DLC add-ons! One of my favorite things about the game were the two interactions you could have with aliens
(the crash site and the random event involving the firelance). So when Bethesda announced that the final DLC for Fallout 3 would take place
on an alien spacecraft, I was counting the days until it's release, and it didn't disappoint!
Mothership Zeta finds your wasteland character abducted onto an alien mothership. From there, you must find a way off the ship and return
to earth. Along the way, you can choose to help other abducted people, many of which are from various countries and times in earth's history, very
cool! The weaponry is amazing and plentiful. New items and even a new perk can be found on the ship. The ship itself is huge, and will take many
hours of gameplay to search thoroughly!
That's about all I can say without giving much away. There are numerous surprises awaiting you, many of which are laugh-out-loud funny.
All of the DLC expansions have been unique and different, and Mothership Zeta is no exception. If you own Fallout 3, then this DLC
is a must have! It's a fun and exciting adventure that is unlike anything else you'll find in the world of Fallout 3 that is well worth it's asking price!

Supreme Commander 2 Review

Supreme Commander 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, this is a good iteration of an RTS on a console. While the controls are not perfect, they are good, and after working with them for a half hour or so you will find them second nature. There are a few minor things in the control scheme I would like to see, but overall you can play the game without fighting the controls.
The story is not great, but few people play an RTS game for the story. The graphics are good, and the game retains the 'strategic zoom' functionality that allows you to zoom all the way in to watch individual units do battle, or zoom all the way out to a strategic level where all units are represented by icons.
Unlike the first iteration of this game on Xbox, which was basically unplayable, this version runs really well. There may be some slowdown when the battles get really large, but overall the frame rate seems acceptable.
The gameplay has been simplified somewhat from the first game, which I think is good. I know some people, particularly on the PC side, are upset over this, but I truly think it makes for a more streamlined game.
Overall, if you are looking for a good RTS to play on your console, give Supreme Commander 2 a try.

Fallout New Vegas Review

Fallout New Vegas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I should state that i did not get this game through amazon, I picked it up at gamestop, that being said the collectors edition of Fallout: New Vegas is very worth the price! I have never bought a collectors edition for any game before but i just had to when i found out about NV. Everything that comes with the CE is high quality, from the graphic novel to the poker chips and playing cards. The only thing i am just a little upset about is the "making of" dvd because obsidian had basically already released it in small parts (you can look them up on the internet). The poker chips included are a nice touch and are high quality, even weighted to feel like real las vegas chips, and the playing cards are nice quality as well (though i dont think i will use them). all in all it was very worth the extra 20 dollars over the regular. I would recommend this to all fans of Fallout!
