AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters) Review

AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It is a relief to find HDMI cables that are inexpensive and deliver high quality video. I paid $40 for a 4ft cable at Circuit City a year ago, and less than half that price for the 10ft cable from Amazon.
As an electrical engineer I can tell you copper is copper. Unless Monster cable has coaxial wire for each signal line, which they don't because then the cable would be 10x larger than it is, then it's just copper wire inside a shield. There's still going to be crosstalk and capacitive coupling and all that stuff. All that "gas filled" stuff doesn't matter either. If you look at the mathematical equasions for the frequency response of an unshielded wire, you'd know none of this stuff makes any major difference.
The biggest thing to avoid, if you can, are ferrite cores on a cable. Ferrite cores are those black blob things that overmold the cable near one or both of the connectors. Ferrite cores act as high frequency filters and may cause signal degradation. They are typically used to comply with FCC laws and other regulatory bodies' radiated emissions laws. They add cost to the cable and typically degrade performance.
Regarding expensive cables, HDMI or otherwise, what no one asks is the most fundamental question - Why? Let's assume Monster cable isn't lying and they can provide 300 GHz bandwidth or whatever they claim. Why do you need a cable that outperforms so much? It's like owning a car that can go 1000 MPH but the speed limit is 55MPH. In my field, that's called "over-engineering" which equates to unnecessary additional cost, which is exactly the problem Amazon has solved by sourcing this simple low cost HDMI cable.
While I'm soapboxing, gold plating isn't necessary either. Silver is the best conductor, followed by Copper, and then Gold (third best). Stainless Steel isn't far behind. The only reason gold plating is "better" is Gold does not corrode (but neither does stainless steel... they actually gold plate the stainless steel, how dumb is that?). If you are using your cables in a house where the humidity & temp is relatively constant, you should never need gold. As far as I can tell, Gold is just a gimmick to charge more for cables.

Xbox 360 Console 2008 Review

Xbox 360 Console 2008
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been waiting and waiting to buy a 360 until this holiday season in hopes that the package was good. Unfortunately I'm stuck with Kung Fu Panda, and Lego Indiana Jones. While they are fun, I much would have rather had Forza 2 and Marvell:UA. However, I did buy it on the Monday of Thanksgiving and got The Last Remnant and a 4000pt Xbox card with it from Amazon. Great Deal!!
If you are trying to decide which Xbox 360 system to buy, there are a couple things to consider: Hard Drive, connectivity, and network.
For me, new owner, the first thing was the large 120gb HDD. I'm a moderately hardcore gamer, and don't want to have to think twice about space left on my hard drive. However, now there is the 60gb version which should be great for most people. But if you look at the price of the 120gb HDD alone ($150), the Elite is a much better deal.
The HDMI output was the second major deciding factor for me as I wanted the best possible picture from my games and movies. Plus my TV has more HDMI ports than component cable connections.
Also, right now the Xbox Live network is by far the strongest online gaming network. The others might and probably will catch up in the future, but right now Xbox live is the top online gaming network. So being able to play online with family and friends right now was important. Not many people have a PS3, which means that A: play games offline, or online by yourself; or B: make new online friends in a small gaming network. I chose the Xbox.
As a side note: I assumed that since the new chips, Jasper, have been around for a month that the new holiday bundles would have had them, but they didn't. Mine was manufactured in April, which is the Falcon.
If you are unsure about the Elite compared to the 60gb Pro, compare your choices here:

Enjoy your new Xbox360!!

Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.

The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage this console package includes a 120GB hard drive. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.

Control your Gameplay Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has also created a video-conferencing camera, sold separately, that will work with the system.

The Media Experience

All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.

Go Live

A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital items for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

HDMI cables costing more than 10 bucks are a rip off.
Digital signal is digital. Doesn't matter who makes the cable as long as the quality of the connectors is decent.Anyone that says there is a difference is a shill for some cable company or just plain lying.
Digital signal either goes through or it doesn't.

Universal 3M HDMI Cable Review

Universal 3M HDMI Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased an HDTV and had been looking for an HDMI cable to use with my video game consoles to match the high definition display resolution that my television is capable of projecting in. In my town we don't have a lot of choices when it comes to electronic stores, but I happened to stumble across this cable the other day.
The cable is 9 feet long, allowing a great reach and extension for electronics that may be located a good distance away from the television. The cables are also universal, I tried these out on both my Xbox 360 and my PlayStation 3, and the cable works perfectly with both. The cables are extremely easy to use, simply plug in one side into the appropriate output slot on the console, and then plug in the other end into the television's receiver/input HD slot. This makes using HDMI even easier than component or composite cables since HDMI carries over a digital signal over one cable, versus multiple inputs for both audio and video that older cables such as composite use.
After inserting the cables, simply change the display resolution of the console in the settings toolbar to the desired resolution that corresponds with your television's capabilities, and that's it. Upon calibrating my console to display in 1080p resolution, I immediately noticed a difference in the graphics of already stunning games, such as Gears of War 2, and NBA2K10. Overall, this is a great product that does what it's supposed to, what more can you ask for from an HDMI cable?

Exactly what I expected. Actually ordered this for in in-wall installation where I figured (correctly) that the bend behind the TV would benefit from the flat cable. Also - it did well holding up dragging through the wall. Most importantly the 1.4 rating is superb as I am able to hook up a video camera to the TV and it routes the sound into my receiver. One TV, One HDMI....it's the way it should be (and wish I could get a refund on all the redundant hook-ups on the TV!!

Project Gotham Racing 4 Review

Project Gotham Racing 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some racing games are a little too sim for me, like Gran Turismo and Forza. I don't care about adjusting gear ratios.
Some racing games are a little too arcade for me, like Burnout.
Some racing games just aren't my style, like the NFS street racing games of the last few years. I don't want to lower my car and get a huge wing on my Eclipse.
I still enjoy those racing games, but for me, PGR 4 (and PGR 3) is a perfect combination of simulation and arcade racing. The feel is "sim" enough to require a lot of practice to get really good, but forgiving enough to be fun from the start. The graphics are fantastic, the online play is great, and even the music is diverse and entertaining.
Also, You can drive amazing cars from the beginning, unlike GT, Forza, and NFS. I don't like being stuck with a Mazda Miata for the first few days. I see a lot of Miata's in real life. This is a videogame. I want to drive a Ferrari.
Get this game if you're looking for a great all-around racing game.

TV Type:
Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S5100 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Black
Samsung LN52B550 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

Speakers:
Bose? CineMate? Series II Digital Home Theater Speaker System
Cables:
Monster Cable - THX 1000 4' HDMI A/V Cable
Xbox 360/PS3 Metal Braiding Ver 1.3
I guess you could call me an entertainment freak, I've tried all sorts of HDMI cables, component cables, and speaker systems to get the "best of the best" type entertainment. The rushed down to best buy the first day of purchasing the bravia and bought a super expensive monster thx 1000 4' cable. It came in a ridiculously blistered packaging that was tough to open.
The quality was decent, took it all the way to 1080p. Because my tv was 120hz, sports games really came alive. I also ended up purchasing a second tv, the samsung 52" touch of color. I'd tell ya, it's an AMAZING TV. I moved my bravia to my room for close viewing, and my 52" was my center masterpiece in my living room. I didn't want to spend another $100 for a hdmi cable, so I ended up purchasing one of these hdmi cables on ebay. I was torn between the amazon one and this one. I figured, version 1.3, 1.8m, why not?
The metal braids on the product really is what it states it is. I switch back and forth with this cable between my ps3 and my WD media hard drive reader. To me, honestly, the $100 cable and this cable performed exactly the same. This product delivers exactly as stated, it delivers crisp vivid images no matter what I switch the source to. My main sources are:
Cable TV: HD Channels --> Makes Life on Discovery look RIDICULOUSLY GOOD
PS3: Just watched Avatar Blu-Ray, amazing clarity and sharpness when the Navi are near those ancestral white threads.
Western Digital Media Reader --> I was honestly surprised at how clear the hdmi cable made the .avi files. my tv goes to about 1920 x 1280, so when you load the .avi files and stretch them, I was expecting some distortion, but I was blown away. Highly recommended!

I Love my XBOX 360 with it's Microsoft VGA Cable.
Just wanted to Clear this up for people with the older 360's looking to boost their graphics. (This Cable dose exactly what it is meant to do, that is why I give it 5 Stars).
I have a non-HDMI XBOX 360 core system mfg. 7/2007, the picture doesn't show it well, but all this package contains is a Standard HDMI cable and a adapter that connects to the large A/V port on the back of the 360 and goes out to SOUND ONLY.
This WILL NOT Adapt your Standard 360 A/V port to HDMI.
This product only works if your XBOX 360 Already has a HDMI port in the back and it just gives you ports for audio so you can attach your 360 to HDMI and your surround sound receiver. where as with just HDMI cable, the sound is just coming from your TV's speakers.

Xbox 360 Memory Unit 512MB Review

Xbox 360 Memory Unit 512MB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this memory card to move my profile and saved games from one Xbox 360 to a newer one, and it worked perfectly. The process of copying data from the hard drive to the memory card is simple and fast, and I may keep the card as a backup in case something happens to our new Xbox in the future.
4/5 stars, however, because I consider this product to be far overpriced for what it is. Since the Xbox 360 has standard USB ports, the only thing preventing you from using a standard USB drive (flash or hard drive) to backup your data is the built-in limitations of the Xbox itself. This feels unfair, as the only reason I can think for not allowing the use of USB drives for storage was to force people to buy overpriced memory cards and hard drives.
This is just an inconvenience, and I can't complain too much since I did buy one. If you need a way to backup your save games, or if you are buying a newer machine and want to transfer your data, this is the best way to go, and I do recommend buying one for that purpose.

Xbox 360 Monster GameLink Component Video A/V Cable Review

reference: 34in hdtv sony wega xbr960
after installation and several hours of continuous use, my friends and i have all agreed on the following two statements...
1) the monster gamelink av cable provided sharper images, more detailed environments and overall better color accuracy on my 360 games compared to the microsoft component cable that came free with the xbox 360 premium version.
2)monster gamelink av cable is rather expensive ($60 us )
analysis: if you want the best av cables currently available for your xbox 360, the monster gamelink is hands down the winner in this category...with future games such as halo 3 & gears of war, having a great set of av cables is highly recommended to fully showcase the potential graphics/sound that the xbox 360 is capable of producing...i would have given this product 5 stars, however i believe the price is just a little too high for the average consumer... in conclusion,$60 in my personal opinion is a great long term investment which will provide many years of having the best possible picture on your xbox console.
