AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters) Review

(More customer reviews)It is a relief to find HDMI cables that are inexpensive and deliver high quality video. I paid $40 for a 4ft cable at Circuit City a year ago, and less than half that price for the 10ft cable from Amazon.
As an electrical engineer I can tell you copper is copper. Unless Monster cable has coaxial wire for each signal line, which they don't because then the cable would be 10x larger than it is, then it's just copper wire inside a shield. There's still going to be crosstalk and capacitive coupling and all that stuff. All that "gas filled" stuff doesn't matter either. If you look at the mathematical equasions for the frequency response of an unshielded wire, you'd know none of this stuff makes any major difference.
The biggest thing to avoid, if you can, are ferrite cores on a cable. Ferrite cores are those black blob things that overmold the cable near one or both of the connectors. Ferrite cores act as high frequency filters and may cause signal degradation. They are typically used to comply with FCC laws and other regulatory bodies' radiated emissions laws. They add cost to the cable and typically degrade performance.
Regarding expensive cables, HDMI or otherwise, what no one asks is the most fundamental question - Why? Let's assume Monster cable isn't lying and they can provide 300 GHz bandwidth or whatever they claim. Why do you need a cable that outperforms so much? It's like owning a car that can go 1000 MPH but the speed limit is 55MPH. In my field, that's called "over-engineering" which equates to unnecessary additional cost, which is exactly the problem Amazon has solved by sourcing this simple low cost HDMI cable.
While I'm soapboxing, gold plating isn't necessary either. Silver is the best conductor, followed by Copper, and then Gold (third best). Stainless Steel isn't far behind. The only reason gold plating is "better" is Gold does not corrode (but neither does stainless steel... they actually gold plate the stainless steel, how dumb is that?). If you are using your cables in a house where the humidity & temp is relatively constant, you should never need gold. As far as I can tell, Gold is just a gimmick to charge more for cables.

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable Review

(More customer reviews)The reason that I ended up buying the VGA cable was due to the fact that the component signal (both 720p and 1080i) is subject to overscan. This means that the screen "zooms in" slighty so that you are sure to see a complete picture with no black or static edges. This is a problem though with the Xbox 360 because it ends up cropping the image. For example, the HUD in GRAW is cutoff on the corners when using the component cables. This really bothered me so I gave the VGA a try and viola!
I can now go into the dashboard settings and specify 1360 x 768 which closely matches my LCD's native resolution of 1368 x 768. Thus, I am able to see the whole screen without any overscan/cropping. The only downside is that the overall image gets "washed out" when using the VGA cable. However, this is not really a big deal because most of the newer games (GRAW, Oblivion) have an in-game setting for brightness which you can turn down to eliminate the washed out look.
I highly recommend that you at least give the VGA cables a try. Depending on your TV, you may or may not like them. No big deal though because you can just return them. However, you may find that you really like them and will be glad that you tried them out! (More customer reviews)It's a monster cable for 20 bucks so I guess you would expect it work flawlessly; it does. Maybe the product has changed since it last got reviewed by the May 2006 reviewer, but mine came with the Toslink adapter. Not sure what to do with it though, didn't need it. The monster cable plugged right into the stock XBOX 360 adapter. The Toslink adapter that is included is probably required if you bought the other Monster XBOX 360 Component cable set. Not sure.
Anyway, if you want to plug a digital cable into the stock xbox 360 adapter and into a music system, this'll probably do the trick.
The price is great too. A regular 4' fibre optic cable is retailing for $30.

Hdmi Cable and Adapter for Xbox 360 Review

(More customer reviews)The cable that came with my xbox would block the hdmi port when plugged in, so I couldn't plug both an hdmi cable and digital audio in at the same time (my receiver doesn't have hdmi). However, it is a fairly easy process to remove the plastiic casing around the cable with the digital audio and then both will fit - and it works like a charm.
Just take a flat edge screwdriver to the crease in the side of the casing, give it a light tap with a hammer if necessary, and the plastic casing will pop off. Once this is done, both cables fit without a problem. You may want to wrap with electrical tape once the casing is removed.

Cons: cable is a bit short, the whole cable is about 3-4 ft long but split cable for consoles port is only 1 1/2 ft, barely long enough to connect my Wii, Xbox, and PS2 at the same time.
Bottom line: It is a great buy as consider other are selling branded component cable for $12-$15, and those are only able to hook up with one console at a time.

(More customer reviews)I've been wanting to develop a multi-display system for the various Rock Band parties that I host. The idea is, instead of having the "performers" with their backs to the "audience" while they "perform" in front of a TV or an LCD Projector. The multi-display system will provide a single display for each "performer" (perhaps two for the drummer, positioned to the right and left of the drum kit) and perhaps even a couple of TVs or LCD Projectors facing the "audience".
So far I've got four 17" VGA 1024x768 LCD Displays with VESA mounts. My first step was to find a VGA video cable for my Xbox 360 that would provide an acceptable display, most importantly the lyrics in a four member multiplayer session. When the cable arrived, I realized I had not done my homework. I looked at many cables and didn't realize that only SOME have the optical audio output. This cable DOES NOT! However it does have stereo RCA outputs so, not a total loss. Rock Band does take slight advantage of surround sound with some of the accessory audio but of course the songs are only available in stereo.
Anyway, I hooked the cable up to my 360 and one of the VGA displays and powered up the console. The display was quite good. When I went into the Xbox display settings, it had defaulted to 800x600. I adjusted the resolution to 1024x768 and was still very happy with the display. I started a four member multiplayer session so I could check the readability of the lyrics for the vocalist and was very happy with the results.
Now it's time to order a four port VGA splitter/amp to see how it looks on four displays.
While doing my research on XBox 360 VGA Cables I read many complaints about ghosting. I'm wondering if this was the result of selecting higher resolutions. This won't be an issue for me since I'll be running the 1024x768 native resolution of my LCD display.

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased an HDTV and had been looking for an HDMI cable to use with my video game consoles to match the high definition display resolution that my television is capable of projecting in. In my town we don't have a lot of choices when it comes to electronic stores, but I happened to stumble across this cable the other day.
The cable is 9 feet long, allowing a great reach and extension for electronics that may be located a good distance away from the television. The cables are also universal, I tried these out on both my Xbox 360 and my PlayStation 3, and the cable works perfectly with both. On the up side the shipping was quick and cheap, but that doesn't save this review from the horrible quality of this product. It constantly produces a "double vision" effect, where there is a second instance of everything on screen. I thought I could put up with it, so I used it for a week, it was so terrible that by the second day I was getting migraines. I know what i'm doing and how to configure my setup, you can adjust the contrast and some overdrive settings to make it less noticible, but its still what I would consider terrible video quality.
Trust me, if you need to hook up to a VGA port for HD (I run at 1920x1080), just go with the real deal from microsoft, 40 bucks is steep but dont keep wasting your cash on third party junk.

This is just this, a VGA HDAV (High-Def Audio/Video) cable. I don't know why, but Amazon does this thing where it posts reviews of similar products in other products pages (for example, posting the same reviews for hard/softcover books). Somehow, the 360 Ethernet Cable and "HDMI" cable have been marked as just different versions of this cable, which is in NO WAY similar to those other two different products.
Now, for this cable itself: Yes, it is a VGA cable. Yes, it lets you hook up your Xbox 360 to a computer monitor for true HD video. Yes, it is a third-party product, so the quality is "lower." However, I find that the quality difference between this cable and the Microsoft cable is negligible (I own both). Side-by-side, this cable doesn't give as true of a "black" as the Microsoft version, but I can ONLY tell side-by-side, or on a projector. For the money you save, this cable is well-worth the buy.
