Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Review

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my personal opinion of the game. Take it at that.
Having been a gamer for a long time, and a huge fan of Star Wars, I was really looking forward to this game. Add in that the first game re-ignited my passion for Star Wars, I thought this game was going to be a MUST!
I was severely wrong.
The Good:
They made improvements on the targetting system, the graphics, and incorporated some interesting ideas into the saber crystal system.
The new XP system is a little easier to deal with, than the previous level system.
The secondary lightsaber makes for some interesting ideas.
The Bad:
Very little actual story, amounting to about 20 minutes.
Game play is about 5-8 hours, IF you are trying to find everything, and not skipping the few story scenes. There is no online multi-player component to justify such a lack, unless you count the challenge levels.
The Force Fury system allows you to increase your powers, but really does little, besides being able to beat certain enemies with your force powers, that you would have to use your lightsabers, instead.
Beyond a couple of enemies that you HAVE to use your lightsabers to fight (if you fight them without using Force Fury), you can pretty much walk through almost all levels, using only your force powers.
The promises made by Julio Torres (LucasArts Executive Producer on the game), about this being Starkiller's version of 'The Empire Strikes Back' are very much unfulfilled, as this game is little more than a glorified 'Hack-and-slash', with Force Powers.
The challenge levels are not very challenging.
The interesting ideas I refered to about the second lightsaber, were not taken advantage of, except when using the grab that uses the lightsabers.
The Ugly:
This seems to be just a VERY poor rip off of the Batman:Arkham Asylum set up.
The story that is there, is very weak.
The challenges are mainly repeats of each other.
The main point seems to be to cause wide scale destruction as you go through a level.
The Digital Molecular Matter system seems to have been downgraded to an earlier, less functional version, from the version in the original game.
My thoughts:
This is very disappointing, just based upon what was given in the previous game. While they did make improvements, the improvements actually add to the disappointment. Kind of like most sequals, in movie franchises, the second installment was no where near as good as the first, even taking into account the problems that the original game had. Overall, the game gave a very poor showing of itself. The ending is probably the most disappointing aspect. And while I will not give you spoilers (I don't like games spoiled for me, so I dont do it to others), I will say that the only thing worth seeing in the light side ending, is Starkiller realizing that he controls his own destiny. Personally, I say read the book, instead. Far less disappointing.
If you have to buy the game, wait until you can get it for less than $15-$20. As bad as I feel for Amazon, and anywhere else that sells games, for saying this, I do not feel that the game is worth paying full price.

i never really ever played any of the halo games till this one. i never thought about buying halo 3 until i saw that it was only about 5 or 6 dollars, so i bought it. it said it was the spanish editiion, and this isnt really a selling point for me, i guess thats why it was so cheap. since im mexican, i didnt really care if it was in english or spanish as i can read and understand both spanish and english. now on to the actual review. all the menus and options and stuff are all in ENGLISH. the only thing that is in spanish is the case, the manual, and the dialogue in campaign mode. the campaign also translates just about everything that is said during the campaign, especially the objectives. online is awesome. there are atleast 15 modes and not including downloadable maps, the game comes with like 12 maps and you can download 2 maps for free from the marketplace. overall, i thought i wouldnt like halo games, but now that ive played this one, im planning on getting the new one thats coming out soon. :)

Xbox 360 GameFace Review

Xbox 360 GameFace
Average Reviews:

I don't write these reviews often, but I had to offset the negativity surrounding this product. What do you people expect?
I don't think Nick "Master Modder" even bought one of these. He doesn't seem to understand what the product is. (...He shouldn't have even written that review.)
If P. Hoppes "Rhino" wanted a chrome faceplate, he should have bought a damn chrome faceplate. They do sell them and they're usually cheaper. His complaint was irrelevant.
I don't know what the hell Eric L. Du expected. The paper is fine. I don't see how any other quality would look better. It's all about how good your printer is. I also don't see a problem with laying it on it's side, (even though I personally keep mine vertical).
I have a fairly decent printer and my Xbox currently has a gorgeous painting of H.R. Giger's alien creature gracing the front of it, thanks to this awesome kit. It's unbelievably easy to use. Just set your printer to 8.5 X 14 legal paper and it will print fine. The software is very, very simple. You pick an image or images, lay them out the way you want them, then you can grayscale, sepia, invert, shrink, enlarge, or rotate the images.
This kit serves it's purpose. If it sounds good to you, buy it. Pay little attention to these negative reviews.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Review

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Again I'm given the difficult task of reviewing a game of mixed renown. In the case of Star Wars Unleashed it is safe to say it did well with its' fan base selling millions of copies but was received with lukewarm scrutiny by the critics. Because of this I did not know quite what to expect. Having just beat the game all I can say is it delivered the goods I expected and was in no way a disappointment. Like many other games that belong to the action platform genre it is a blast while playing but despite the fun you are having it ends too abruptly.
If there is a single crime Force Unleashed is guilty of it is that in some ways it is akin to playing God of War with a light saber. Finishing off bosses or large foes requires button mash mini games. Most are easy enough with the hardest one requiring the player to pull a Star Destroyer from the sky as Tie fighters attack mercilessly. As you swathe your way through storm troopers, rebels, aliens, and walkers you collect points from slain foes which eventually make you "level up" so you can improve force powers or buy brand new ones. There are many epic feats Star killer can do and luckily enough a few special attacks such as "lightning bomb" are brand new to the franchise.
Most surprising is the story line is top notch. Side characters such as the beautiful and resourceful Imperial pilot Eclipse and Proxy the friendly yet psychotic droid are oddly endearing. The voice acting is delivered wonderfully as you would expect from a Lucas arts title. In some ways the plot pulled me in just as much as the one in Knights of the old republic though Force Unleashed should not be mistaken for an rpg.
The only thing Force Unleashed can be faulted for is that you visit some worlds twice. Felucia and Kashyk come to mind immediately though I'm happy to say that the lay out drastically changes for each visit. The environments can be truly breathtaking and I was very impressed by the graphics as a whole.
In my whole time playing I can only think of one glitch. When I fought Vader the second time our life bars froze. Pretty much we were both invincible so I had to start my battle over with him upon resetting my 360. I was glad the same glitch did not happen twice. I should mention though the load times are slow the auto save points are put in good places so rest assured dying does not require you restart the whole level.
On account this is the Ultimate Sith edition you are also getting the Jedi temple, Tattoine, and Hoth levels. Two of these missions extend an alternate history in which Star Killer becomes the new Darth Vader. The Jedi Temple was exclusive to the ps2 version until now.
How worth while this game is depends on two factors. If you've already beaten Force Unleashed I'm hesitant to say if the 3 hours of extra content will be worth it for you. Secondly be forewarned this is a Star Wars game from the action plat former mold thus you can likely beat it in one or two nights if you have nothing better to do.
If however you want to know how The Rebellion got started and be put in the shoes of one of the most epic Jedi/Sith rear kickers of all time Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith edition is a steal at the present asking price!
Pros
+ A plot of romance, betrayal, redemption, and conspiracies delivered with flair and passion.
+ Beautiful breath-taking visuals
+Mostly fluid combat and varied ways of using Force powers
+Game does not penalize you for failing real time event button combinations on the lowest difficulty
+Some of the best voice acting I've heard in awhile
Cons
-It is difficult to lock onto what you want sometimes to target objects or foes with your Jedi abilities.
-The sound track is not bad per se but we've all heard these same tired musical scores thousands of times by now.
-The game is not completely absent of glitches.
-Can be beaten quickly
- If you've already beaten the original I cannot in good conscious suggest you trudge through the Ultimate edition for a measly 3 additional hours of play on the special disc that includes the bonus levels. Only the Hoth mission is exclusive. The others can be purchased on Xbox live as downloadable content.
Ending Thoughts: It is hard for me to describe exactly how I feel about Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition. Most complaints I could level at it would also have to be taken up with other games from the action genre. While it doesn't do anything new it does it very well.
Certain people will have a beef with Unleashed merely on account it uses the Star Wars license. Many reviewers are prone to attack a title if it some how connects with a movie or popular franchise. Force Unleashed shamefully draws both those cards.
Yet I never witnessed an instance this game lied about what it was. For those of us that wanted a game similar to Devil may cry or God of war with Jedi, Sith, and Storm trooper it is a dream come true. Had Unleashed been an rpg I would have complained about its' short span. However safe to say most of us know the appeal of this romp is throwing around hapless unfortunate souls with our minds right before we electrocute them with force lightning! On that raw visceral level Unleashed succeeds while offering a memorable tale to boot!

Xbox 360 Console Review

Xbox 360 Console
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am extremely picky about any hardware I use. Having owned both models of the PS3 and a few Xbox 360s (that I bought and sold over time) I have pretty high expectations. Personally I think Xbox live is much better then PSN which is why I jumped from PS3 back to Xbox. My big issue was the hardware. Microsoft took care of a big issue by allowing users to burn their games to the hard drive. However, the fan noise on my Xbox Elite was still driving me crazy. Now my Elite wasn't broken, my ears just seem to attune to the noise they make. It especially drove me crazy when playing games like Puzzle Quest or when browsing the dash board. In this case the PS3 fat and slim where hands down superior (hardware build wise). But like many a fans I put up with the crappy build quality for the sake of a better interface and of course my friends list.
Now onto the new Xbox 360. Let me just say that for once I am very proud of Microsoft. They seem to have taken all the complaints from users and fixed them. This is the system they should have released long ago. The very first thing I noticed is how silent this machine is. Even after running for over an hour you can barely hear the fan. I would go as far as to say it's even more silent then the PS3 slim (which I found to be louder then the fat model). The new Xbox has a strange but cool new look. I don't understand why people are complaining that it is a finger print magnet. How often do you really touch your system once it's in place? The buttons on the front are now touch sensitive instead of pressing them in, and make a cool noise I must say. I'm happy to say that even my disc drive is quite. It's almost as quite running a disc as the fans on my Elite were. There are no old school memory card ports, but they upped the USB ports to 5. 2 on the front and 3 in the back. The new 250GB hard drive is removable. There is a button on the right side vent that you can press and remove the plate. The hard drive is in a special case but it's easier to move. The only downside to this is the people that take their hard drives to their friends house, but this can be fixed by using a USB drive now.
The controller is pretty much the same as the Elites plus a couple changes. The bottom portion of the controller that was gray shaded is now a shiny black and the Xbox button is shiny chrome. All in all goes will with the package. The ear cushion on the headset is also now black instead of grey. Microsoft also has a picture of a black chat pad and wireless headset on the box for the new 360. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a black controller charger.
To close, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. It's a worthy upgrade and one that shows Microsoft is actually listening for once. Also for those planning to get Kinect there is a dedicated port so on the new system which will let you use the camera with one less cable.

Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle Review

Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I sold my older model Xbox and purchased this Reach bundle as a replacement. After unboxing and testing it out, I have to say its a huge upgrade from my previous model. It runs quieter and cooler since the "Slims" are built on the new 45nm "Valhalla" motherboard architecture which also require less power. Finally some built-in Wi-Fi too.
It looks beautiful...Bungie's custom artwork really sets this thing apart from the rest....work of art. The custom Reach controllers also look great and compliment the Xbox's Reach design theme. Not to mention you get "two" of them in this bundle....in my case I have a brand new spare now to store away for later.
The custom sounds when powering up this Xbox and opening the disc tray were neat, I liked them. Further adds to the Halo theme.
Also included as a bonus with the Reach Xbox bundle were codes for: Falcon Avatar accessory, Elite officer armor, Spartan Recon helmet, an episode of Halo Legends called "The Package", and a 2-day Xbox Live Gold trial. The console is also Kinect-ready.
5-stars, anything less would be absurd.

Skate Review

Skate
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A new series, walking into the mouth of a lion, skate is one of the most innovative and fresh games in the genera. A new control scheme paired with amazingly detailed graphics and challenging game play make for a sure buy if you're a fan of any extreme game series.
First and foremost, if you have a obsessive personality or are a perfectionist stay away from this game, because you'll not be getting any sleep. For everyone else the new flickit controls have a very hard learning curve, but after 15 minutes you should get the hang of it. A few problems with the controls plague this game, its super frustrating to hit the tiniest bump and have your skater turn around in the opposite direction but this is minor in a sea full of awesome.
The story doesn't have a lot of variety but what it does have is entertaining and enough to keep you going to the end.
Overall a solid game with room for great improvement that will leave it on the top of the ramp compared to everything else in the long run. Go pick this up if you've enjoyed other skating games, or if you want to try something new that will leave you having great times for a long time.

i ussally write anime reviews, and I never got into the limited edition controller thing, but the Fable 3 controller is the first that actually peaked my interest. Forza Motorsport 3 Review

Forza Motorsport 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's often said the the third time's the charm, and in the case of Forza Motorsport 3, that couldn't be more true. FM3 manages to improve upon it's predecessors in almost every imaginable way. If you've played Forza Motorsport 2, you're probably aware that the game wasn't designed with casual gamers in mind. FM3 changes this, and finally brings the franchise to a level that it has appeal not only as an uber-realistic racing simulator, but also as an entertaining racing game that just about anyone can pick up and enjoy. The addition of autobraking and rewind undoubtedly make things easier on newcomers, while the tweaked physics engine and ramped-up AI will give even the most die-hard Forza fanatics a run for their money. With over 400+ cars and 100+ tracks, one would be hard-pressed to get bored with this game.
Without a doubt, the two most significant improvements are the graphics and the new "Storefront". Forza Motorsport 3 displays in a native 720p (upscaled to 1080p by the console) running at 60 fps. This translates to a rich, detailed, and smooth-flowing picture that makes you feel like you're actually racing in Le Mans. To further immerse gamers, Turn 10 added a true in-cockpit view that was rendered to be a perfect likeness of the real life car. The environment and tracks weren't spared from this graphic overhaul either, and I often found myself going on free rides just to scope out the scenery and enjoy the ride.
Glossy graphics aside, the "meat" of the game is still incredibly satisfying. Those who were avid players of FM2 can testify to the integral part that online activities played. Don't worry, as Turn 10 was obviously aware this and made sure to spice things up just for you. Painting cars, applying vinyls and decals, and selling customized cars in FM3 couldn't be easier. In fact, this practice is encouraged with the addition of the new "Storefront". Players now have the ability to sell not only liveries for cars, but also tuning configurations. Making a name for yourself as an artist in Forza Motorsport 3 is a definite goal for some, but even those who lack the finesse required to create liveries can benefit from the changes.
Overall, this game not only meets all expectations set forth by hardcore FM2, but exceeds them. Those of you who are looking for a fun and relaxed racing game won't be disappointed though, as Forza Motorsport 3 was also designed with you in mind. I would, without a doubt, recommend the purchase of this game. The only downside is that the game comes with two disks (and a total of 1.9 GB of data) and necessitates the use of a hard drive if you plan on adding the bonus content (100+ cars and 3 environments).
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(UPDATE - November 4, 2009) - Numerous reviews have been posted addressing the shortcomings concerning the online multiplayer mode. They are correct. Turn 10 absolutely perfected the single player aspect of this game with "Season Mode" but, upon playing a few hours in the online multiplayer mode (which, due to all the waiting, is only two or three races) a glaring flaw reveals itself- Turn 10's "reset" of the new matchmaking system sucks. A lot. Gone are the days of creating your own custom party. Gone are the days of racing sub-A class cars. Gone are the glory days of online multiplayer.
While this may not be a huge deal to me (I mostly play single-player anyways), it's definitely a problem that NEEDS to be addressed. I've also noticed some problems in single player mode..* Some in-car views aren't interactive, or don't render correctly.
* While the sound of cars has been vastly improved, there are still some problems. It seems that the exhaust note is based solely on displacement of the engine. A Camaro shouldn't sound like a Murcielago.
* Uploading the "Movies" doesn't work unless they're shot in low-res. 720p videos just don't upload.
* The "Performance Index" is broken. A Dodge Ram with a PI of 700 should, logically, perform on par with a Lamborghini Reventon with a PI of 700, right? Well, that's not how it works. I don't know how the PI is calculated, but it's not right.
* The resolution of Photomode leaves alot to be desired. While it's understandable that there needs to be a limit on file size to relieve strain on Turn 10's servers, I feel that the quality of the pictures doesn't do the game justice.
* Everything sold in the Storefront has a price cap of 10,000 credits. While this is just temporary, it's a huge disincentive at to spend hours upon hours perfecting a quality livery to be sold.
* The AI occasionally does stupid things. Though it's rare, I've seen opponents slam on their brakes for no reason when they're in the lead, slam into walls, or just stop driving. I don't know if these are just glitches, or the AI trying to be "more human". Whatever the cause, it's not right.MY ratings so far-

Xbox 360 Hard Drive 250GB - Not for Xbox Slim Review

Xbox 360 Hard Drive 250GB - Not for Xbox Slim
Average Reviews:

Item arrived a day early which was excellent. Packaged nice and kept quite secure in box. Instructions for transferring all my stuff from 120 gb hdd to the 250 couldn't have been simpler. I would reccomend this product to anybody with an expanding game collection who would like to install games on their hard drive. The reason i do it is to prevent the system from overheating and getting a RED RING. My system runs quieter now and my load times have been cut drastically and my stystem overall performs much better. 5 stars all the way.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Review

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this black wireless controller so I could have another wireless controller. Be advised when reading reviews on this product that it appears some people are reviewing the Xbox 360 Silver Controller and Play & Charge Kit, which is a special controller that is different (and more expensive as of this writing) than the black controller I am reviewing. This controller does NOT have any chrome items on it (other than the usual Xbox Guide button), nor does it have any upgrades to the D-pad.
As far as the controller itself, I didn't notice any structural difference between this controller and my old white controller that came with my Pro 20GB Xbox 360 several years ago. I did notice, however, that this controller properly charges my Play & Charge Kit where my old one did not. Prior to buying this controller, my Play & Charge kit would always show the red light while recharging. Since the recharging appeared to work anyway, I didn't think much of it (especially after calling Microsoft and being informed that the warranty on accessories is only 90 days, though that was in 2008). Since I assumed that the battery was at fault the whole time, I was surprised to find out that this controller charged the battery and (correctly) showed a green light when charging was complete.
Though it did not appear to be a structural change to the controller, I had somewhat forgotten (or not realized?) how much wear my controller has taken over the four years (give or take) since I got my console. The new controller gives me a bit more precision in games, especially with the right stick and the pushing of the sticks (for activities like sprinting). The tactility of the sticks (with little raised lines for grip) were a nice reminder of what my controller seemed to have at one time.
This was a satisfying purchase for functionality and the nice sleek look of black. I should also note that while the description of the item is "Glossy Black," this controller isn't really what I would call glossy like you would call the bezel of an LCD monitor or clear coat on a car. It gives off very little gloss in my opinion, which is fine by me.

Hour of Victory Review

Hour of Victory
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought Hour of Victory today and I played through part of the first mission and so far I like the game up to a certain point. I noticed right away the game has some good points and it has some bad points.
First with the good points. The graphics are really good and the enemy soldiers acts just the way you would expect them to. They run and hide for cover whenever they can. It is not real easy to get past the enemy soldiers. The A.I. is not too bad. At the beginning of the game there are three different soldiers with different skills you can choose to play throughout the game. You can hit the enemy head on with one soldier who is expert at running and gunning. Or if you want you can choose another soldier who is a expert with a sniper rifle to climb up on a rope to a building roof top to shoot down below at the enemy. Or you can choose another soldier who is an expert at sneaking up on the enemy to cut through barb wire and pick the locks to open doors to buildings. Each soldier has special skills that is unique to that particular soldier. You decide before the beginning of each mission what soldier you want to be in the game. I also like the background music in the game. It really adds to the atmosphere.
Now for the bad points. The game is not perfect. The game developers need to come out with some patches to fix Hour of Victory not to be just a good game, but to be a great game. I hate how game developers show you screen shots and game videos of what the game is suppose to look like and then when you buy the game and start to play it you find out the game looks and acts totally different. The first thing the game developers need to do is do away with the gigantic weapon's crosshair circle that is permanently in front of you every where you go. You can't get rid of it. It is very annoying to have a gigantic crosshair circle in front of you everywhere you go. It ruins the game because the graphics are great and then you have this stupid huge crosshair circle that is constantly in front of you blocking your view. I didn't see this gigantic weapon's crosshair circle in any of the game's screenshots or videos. So why put it in the game? I don't get it. Second, give the player a choice on how to set up your Xbox 360 game controller. I don't like how the controls are set up now on the game controller and you can't change them. When I'm using a weapon, I like the aim button for using your iron cross sights in front of the controller. I don't like the way it is set up now by pressing the right stick down to try to aim a weapon. It is on the same side as the firing button on your controller. You can't change it. What is up with that? On the main menu in the game where options selection is, you can't really do anything to change the game. In fact there are hardly any choices at all to change the game settings. It almost feels like the game developer are saying your going to play the game the way we tell you to and you can't change anything. Hey we're not babies. Let us have the the options or choices on how to set up and play the game.
Game developers need to give a player choices on how to play a game. Let the player decide how they want to play the game. Don't force the player to be stuck playing a game one way and that is it. I recommend getting Hour of Victory only after the game has been fix with patches. Playing the game the way it is set up now is way too frustrating. I love World War II games as long as there done right by the game developer.
(Quick Update: I contacted the game publisher Midway to see if you can change anything in the game and they told me that you are stuck with the game the way it is. I am very disappointed. It is really sad. The game had so much potential. This will be another game that will be hitting the bargain bin in the near future.)
What this game does is give you a small taste of what is coming out later on this year when on August 28, 2007 Medal of Honor: Airborne comes out. Now there is a game that looks like it being done right by the game developers. That is definitely going to be one of top games of the year. I can't wait for Medal of Honor: Airborne to come out. Even though Hour of Victory has it faults, I guess it will just have carry me over until Medal of Honor: Airborne comes out later on this summer.

The Xbox 360 Halo Edition may be the best deal for halo fans. First you get the cool paint job of Gold / Green . You also get voice headset and battery charge and play kit so you dont have to worry about your batteries dying or buying it seperately. But the best deal may be that the falcon chip and extra heatsink is included making red rings hopefully history.

SAW 2 Review

SAW 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Saw 2 is hands and shoulders above its predecessor. Campbell and Michael are the main game players, both suffering from severe inner ear problems and vertigo as well as crippling polio, judging by there inability to walk a foot wide board of wood and running speed of just past crawling. With as twisty and complex a story as any Saw movie, the story holds up rather well. Michael Tapp finds himself in a stretch of abandoned real estate, trying to free the cops that were part of his fathers police unit.
Like its predecessor, the game struggles for atmosphere, but manages to pull it off rather well. The backgrounds are vivid and well detailed. In place of the same sequence of rooms from the prior game, it moves between a hotel, subway, hospital, and a school. Audio is still all Tobin Bell, though the other characters are well voiced, if a tad whiny and childish. The background from Detective Tapp still misses its mark, as they can't find a good voice actor to sound like Tapp.
Gameplay is where it falls flat. Everything except puzzles is a QTE. Dodging booby traps, holes in the floor and collapsing ceilings, combat and some cinematics, everything is quicktime events. While this sometimes contributes, it more often robs the moment of the feeling its going floor. The traps are repetitively repetitive, though the character traps are well made, few have the metaphorical irony that the Saw movies did so well, and few have any originality, though some are spot on. Boss fights are tedious and banal, and feel more like work. Save points are rare as diamonds, so you better have a good hour to play at each stint.
The tone is all wrong though. Jigsaw rewards ingenuity and drive, but he doesn't punish curiosity. There are too many places where you can be insta killed for trying to find collectibles, one of the few things done exceedingly well and in line with the larger universe story and tone. But there's a shotgun or blade trap on nearly every door, and you're shuttled through like a canal lock, meaning you can't go back and explore.
One great thing is the Billy Doll puzzles, which are optional, are HARD. Not just mind numbing find the combo nonsense, but complex number and logic puzzles. This is a rather tasty bit that I wish had been applied to the larger game, as while some of the puzzles are fun, most are tedious, though nearly all of them are done with a decent amount of thought. A bit more explanation, and raising the bar for the majority of the puzzles would've done great things for this as whole.
Overall, this is a solid rent, but don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to put an axe through the TV. Given this is twice the quality of the initial foray, hopefully the third installation will be of the quality of the original saw movie.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Review

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a fantastic game. The amount of care and attention that went into its creation is constantly evident. There are three main things rare among fighters that this game does enormously well:
1) The fighting style of each and every character is creative and meticulously crafted to be unique and fun;
2) Despite that, the game is somehow finely balanced;
3) The deeper aspects of the game do have a steep learning curve, but enough shortcuts are etched into that hill that newbies should keep up admirably and enjoy learning.
How it manages to pull off all these things so well is a mystery to me. I would place BlazBlue high on a list of examples of game design as art.
The downside of these balancing acts is the relatively small number of characters, but personally I'm fine with that. There's no question that the game delivers enough meat to sink one's teeth into, more than this and it might be difficult to chew. The music and graphics are also very high quality.
Some flaws/cons (mostly nitpicking):
1) Some of the character designs don't quite hold up to the level of originality you'll find in their gameplay. You've probably seen a lot of these designs before (Cat Girl, future military dudes with sword guns, massive-breasted slut-in-glasses, GooAlienMonster that spits/summons stuff, Goth Lolita, etc.), but A) that's anime for you, and B) they're particularly well done cliches, and none of this has anything to do with gameplay.
2) I'm a bit of a puritan when it comes to this stuff, but for me some of the defense mechanics are needlessly complicated, which I think is directly related to...
3) The combo system is firmly into the mad waters of Marvel Vs Capcom 2. By which I mean, you can combo virtually anything at any time with few limits, and can actually get infinite combos with a single repeated button press in a lot of situations (try it in training mode). HOWEVER, the aforementioned defense mechanics, in all their complexity, give the defender plenty of options to prevent that from happening. It just strikes me as an oddly sloppy and needlessly convoluted system.
Anyway, those cons really are quite nitpicky and shouldn't influence your opinion. I can't recommend the game enough to fans of fighters. I write reviews very rarely, and glowing reviews like this almost never, but I just had to rave about this one in public. In other words, this isn't just good, it's a truly exceptional game. It will be a terrible pity if it isn't as popular as it deserves to be, Guilty Gear isn't quite the same pedigree as the competition.
